How Will Our Hero Escape This Time?: Comic Book Hinterlands, #4
()
About this ebook
What will happen now that the chapter to the movie serial is over?
Will our hero survive? Will we be able to make it to the movie theater next week to see what happens next? The movie serials were a large part of the movie going experience in the first half of the Twentieth Century. They featured great heroes saving the day. It also featured great heroes almost getting killed at the end of every twenty minute chapter.
We have taken five movie serials that were adapted from the comic books and featured just the cliffhanging moment. We don't include how they got out, just the jam they wound up in.
We feature movie serials starring: Captain America, Batman, Captain Marvel, Blackhawk and the Spysmasher. The cliffhangers are presented in unique ways. Sometimes its fun not knowing how they get out of it. Maybe your ideas are better than what the filmmakers came up with.
Join us for a strange stop in the forgotten parts of comic book history, here in the Comic Book Hinterlands.

How Will Our Hero Escape This Time? - David Macpherson
Writer’s Note
The Comic Book Hinterlands series of short books are made to spotlight obscure parts of the comic book landscape. They are meant to be fun. There is some research in these books, but they are not intended to be scholarly works. While I attempt to be accurate, I am not beholden to academic rigor. This is not a serious work, but a piece of entertainment that focuses on comic book history and culture. Sources were referenced to make sure that things are not incorrect. But you are not going to see a bibliography here. Google searches and Wiki dives were the way we got the info we did. If any information is wrong, we apologize and will correct it in any future editions. Like this is going to get a second edition. That’s wishful thinking.
Captain America
After he defeated the two gangsters and opened up the giant safe where Gail and the two scientists were imprisoned, Captain America is informed that if the prototype Giant Vibrator is not turned off, the whole building will collapse and Cap tells them to escape while he attempts to turn off the Giant Vibrator and he goes and busts open the door to the lab where the Vibrator resides, but it seems like he is too late because the whole building is breaking into pieces and the last we see of Captain America is when several beams trap him and the room is filled with debris and dust and no one could survive such a thing.
Though still securely tied to the chair with thick rope, kindly Professor Dodge is able to fend off the one remaining hood by shooting blindly with the revolver, with no chance of hitting anything but scaring the hood all the same and thus saving the unconscious Captain America from the evil plans of the criminal organization that is the Purple Death, but, before he flees the barn, the hood starts up the giant tractor which moves toward Captain America and Professor Dodge and the tractor slowly but inexorably approaches the unconscious hero and all we notice are those powerful crushing treads as it gets closer and closer, signaling a flattening doom.
With the assistance of Professor Dodge’s Electronic Thunder Bolt Detector, Captain America knows the location of where the hoods are using the Electronic Thunder Bolt to break into a bank vault, because the Electronic Thunder Bolt is a laser that goes through steel like it was butter and Captain America must stop them before they steal everything valuable in the city and he starts fist fighting with the criminals before they can abscond with the loot and he and one of the hoods fiercely fight and wind up tussling in a large wooden crate and another mobster turns on the Electronic Thunder Bolt and aims it at the crate and the whole thing bursts into flames and still Captain America fights with the hood, unaware of the danger all around him and soon all that can be seen is smoke and death.
While Grant Gardner is captured and held by gunpoint, the Scarab and his henchmen has set the robot controlled truck full with explosives and set it off on the road to the Lydon Estate to kill Professor Dodge, but luckily Grant Gardner kills the criminal who was tasked with guarding him and then he puts on his Captain America costume, finds a motorcycle and rushes out to rendezvous with the robot control truck and he leaps onto its roof, slowly edging into the driver’s window and takes control of the wheel just in time to avert it from hitting the Lydon Estate, but the truck explodes with the Captain still inside and there is no shred of hope remaining.
While looking for clues in a printing plant, Gail is captured by the Scarab's goons and they recognize her as Captain America's helper and hogtie and place her in the belly of an industrial paper cutter in order to discover Captain America's secret identity, but luckily that is the time Cap shows up and starts the fisticuffs with the two goons, but during the fight, they accidentally start the paper cutter and Gail watches in horror as the sharp blade rises and then falls heading right at her and Captain America unaware that his best girl is about to be guillotined in two.
And this time Captain America is fighting two more of the Scarab’s gang, but this time, they are in a mine entrance and this time there is a mining pit they are
