    Medina  5’3" 137lbs

I went to the same univeristy as my brothers. When I was a sophomore Ernie was a senior and Buddy was a freshman. They were both on the football team and I was on the soccer team.

We had a record board at the school gym and one of my friends insisted that I record my 845lb leg press. I decided why not. About a week later, Ernie told me that his teammates noticed my personal best and told him to see what he could do. Ernie was about 5’10" 190lbs at the time and a mediocre small college safety or (sometimes) wide receiver. The good news was that Ernie leg pressed 575 successfully. The bad news was, he failed at 665lbs.

I chuckled a bit about this situation but Ernie wasn’t laughing. He also knew that it wasn’t my fault, it was just an embarrassing situation for him. I told a couple of my teammates/friends and they insisted that I put my name on the board for some of the other areas (lifts).

But before I did, something was gnawing at me. I wasn’t sure if 845 was really my maximum or whether it was just the most I tried. With my two best friends watching, I had 845 all set and added 30’s to both sides. I got myself ready and then succesfully leg pressed 905lbs. I was even able to go it a 2nd time. I stopped there, but it was thrilling. It got even more fun when I saw four of the guys on the football team watching. They weren’t sure how to react but I could see some embarrassment on the faces of a couple guys. Meanwhile the other two guys seemed like they wanted to immediately start feeling my leg muscles lol. But we just went on to other areas.

I then recorded a 3-rep personal record of 350lbs. Since it wasn’t a maximum it really didn’t seem like it was a huge number. But I’d soon find out that 3 reps of 350 IS a big deal! Plus, I found out something else only about an hour later.

We walked by the leg press area and I looked at the other numbers recorded. There were five or six football players listed. One of them was in the 900’s, one was in the 800’s and the rest were between 650 and 790lbs. I was starting to realize how strong I really was.

Buddy, my younger (freshman) brother heard ALL about his sister’s lifting exploits. He was about 5’11" 220lbs at the time. While he’s bigger than Ernie, he still had some baby fat. But as a big guy, Ernie took pride in his strength and overall power. A guy on the football team told me that Buddy was hell bent on seeing what HIS max was. He had worked up to 600+lbs for reps, so he probably thought he could go considerably higher. Apparently, Buddy proved to be a very strong guy, making it to 755lbs as his max. While that’s a fantastic total, it was also 150lbs less than his shorter, lighter soccer-playing sister.

Neither Ernie nor Buddy said much to me about leg pressing except to note that they wished they could do more than me. They also wondered how I got so strong. In one of my favorite, funniest moments, my brothers touched my legs and were stunned at how hard my calves, hammies and quads are. It gave them a better understanding of my freakish leg strength.

I figured I’d pump up their male egos by recording my bench press, which I figured would be well below theirs. I also told them that I only did 350lbs for 3 reps on the squat.

I went to the gym for a regular workout and planned to include a max bench press as well. I easily handled 45’s on each side for a 135 total and knew I could load on another 15lbs per side. 165 was in the books and wasn’t that hard. I ultimately ended at max benching 185lbs. More than I thought, that’s for sure. Ernie, fortunately, eeked out 190lbs. Frankly, I thought he’d do well over 200. Buddy managed to bench 230lbs, which was also less than I expected, but more than me.

But then there was the squat issue. Ernie could do 230lbs for 3 reps. Buddy managed to do 280lbs for 3 reps. I was WAY out-squatting these two! When we tried a maximum, I nailed 415lbs. Ernie maxed out at 270lbs and Buddy made it up to 330lbs. I easily outlifted both of my brothers! Heck, they couldn’t even squat 350lbs ONE time, and I did it THREE times! Ernie failed at 270 and I could do 270lbs for EIGHT reps! I was swelling with pride and the fellas were starting to accept the fact that their sis has some serious womanpower!

Ernie told me that guys would occasionally tease him about me. They’d ask him if I ever kicked him in the balls or flat out kicked his ass lol. Frankly, I think I could have kicked Ernie’s ass and still could. I could probably also have served some serious humble-pie
