Sanguisuge Book 5 - Sharon Lopez

    Chapter 1

Dad entered the room . When he reached mom, he raised his hand to caress her arm but thought better of it. We have a son?

Mom glanced at me for a few seconds and then let her head fall.

No, De... DeAngelo does, I said.

Dad’s face was full of pain. You had an affair?

Ethan shook his head. It was before you.

You told me you could never betray Micah, but I learn that you two—

It wasn’t like that, Darby, Mom whispered.

DeAngelo put his hand on Darby’s shoulder. It was one night. We both felt terrible afterward.

Mom slumped to the floor. She put her head in her hands and cried.

DeAngelo shook his head. "I will start from the beginning. After Darby went missing, Micah’s behavior became erratic. Sara broke it off with him, but he refused to let her go. He followed her wherever she went. He was emotionally and verbally abusive. Sara begged me to help her. I found her a safe place to go so that she could live her life without his constant harassment. I moved her belongings in, and the rest is as I told you, Trinity. We were hanging a picture. I held the ladder for her. She slipped, and I caught her. I leaned in and kissed her. One thing lead to another and we joined.

We tried to find Darby without Micah’s knowledge for a few months, but there was no trace. After that, we went our separate ways. I had heard rumors about Sara being pregnant, but by that time, Micah began with his plans to capture the Scions. Micah and I were traveling all over. When I finally could get away, Sara was with Finn. There was no child, so I presumed someone misinformed me."

My parents made me give him up. They said I was unwed and too young. I never wanted to deceive anyone. I just didn’t know how to tell any of you.

Grandma and Grandpa never said a thing.

    They wouldn’t have.

Do you know what happened to him?

    Mom shook her head.

He would have gone to a family within the territory. He should not be hard to track down, DeAngelo said.

It certainly did not go through me, Finn said.

It wouldn’t have, Dad. It would have gone through the clan leaders before you, Donall, and Micah. I pulled out my phone and dialed. Grandpa? We have to talk.

    What about Baby Girl?

    My brother.

There was silence on the line.

    Grandpa?

We agreed you were not to be told about him.

That doesn’t sound like something mom would agree to.

    Trinity...

I peered up and mom was shaking her head.

Do you know where he is, Grandpa?

I can find out. Trin, are you sure you want me to?

DeAngelo and I want to know Grandpa.

He knows too? I heard Grandpa groan. I will call you back.

I hung up the phone and glanced over at the group. Grandpa is going to call me back.

DeAngelo glanced at mom. I am sorry, Sara. I never meant to cause trouble for you. Once I know where he is... I will leave you to your life.

Mom shook her head. No, this is my fault. I should have been honest with everyone from the beginning.

Dad sat down next to Mom. Yes, you should have, but I understand why you felt you could not. Dad took mom’s hand in his.

DeAngelo, Darby, Ethan, and I left the room to give mom and Dad privacy to talk. We went into the meeting room.

Darby looked at DeAngelo. When you leave, I think I will go with you.

I glanced at them. I don’t think either of you should go.

I have made a mess of things just by being here.

The truth came out, DeAngelo. It has a way of doing that.

How could you want me to stay here after everything you learned?

Neither of you did anything wrong. Besides, we are family. Your son is my brother.

DeAngelo opened his mouth to speak.

I spoke first. We both want to find him. I think we should do it together.

Ethan glanced at Darby. Darby, you are my family. I would like time to get to know you.

Darby gave Ethan a weak smile and a quick nod.

I am not my father. I will not seal you in a wall if I get angry with you.

I am sorry, Ethan. My family has not been very kind to me.

I understand, Uncle Darby. Your brother was my father.

    Was?

That’s right, you don’t know. Micah stood trial for his crimes. We convicted him of several murders, as well as other crimes. We sentenced him to death.

    Death? Vampires are impervious—

The Sacred Sword Karasuma was made into twin daggers that can pierce through the skin of vampires.

And the Remar Clan is in control of these weapons?

Yes, considering only scions can wield them. Ethan closed his eyes and lowered his head the minute the words left his mouth.

Darby studied Ethan as if he was just seeing him for the first time. He turned to me and did the same. You and Trinity?

Trinity was born half scion and half vampire. I was born a vampire and...

Trinity’s blood. You came into contact with it. That is how you became half Scion.

The room grew quiet, and everyone stared at me.

Darby looked at everyone. I am sorry. I can read minds. I didn’t realize this was a secret.

    Is this true, Trinity?

I glanced at DeAngelo. I guess with Micah gone... It was going to come out, eventually.

You can turn vampires into scions?

    I nodded.

I see why you would want to keep this a secret. If Micah had known...

Yes, and I would appreciate it if we could continue to keep this quiet.

    Darby
