Chapter 1
Silence, dead silence, followed the vampires booming. No one was willing to upset him. Thank you
his voice now soft and pleasant.
Devan turned to Emil with a small smile. Thank you. Now you are not the first to ask about my hair tonight, our friend here beat you to that. I don’t know what happen. All I can say is, I have not cast a spell or anything. I just seem to have the same colouring as my boys now.
Soft giggles from one of the females could be heard, and Devan would bet his last coin that it was his wife. Now can we get back to business? I will need you all to return home, and stay inside tonight, while Emil and I man the tower.
A lanky teen and his father step forward. Devan,
the older man spoke if it is so important. Matty and I will man the tower. You go do what must be done. The village will be behind you no matter what. We can and will,
now the old man was looking at the people around him, wait until you think it time to inform us.
Thank you Matt. I appreciate the help. Matty you will be okay, stay up with your father all night.
Worry was visible in Devan’s voice, for the boy was not known for his good health.
Yes sir, I’ll be just fine. Thanks for asking.
Then all’s fine. Matt will you be able to get there as soon as possible. We need the eyes on lookout. It will not help the young hunters send the signal and no one is around to send it down to us or too the rest of them. That can lead to unnecessary deaths.
We’ll be leaving now, come on boy. I’ll go on so long; you get us some broth and bread from home. Oh… and boy remember some blankets.
Matt had to call after his son, as Matty left after the first sentence. I’m off. That boy is one bundle of nerves from excitement.
Laughing Matt left the group.
After Matt left, the rest of the villagers slowly disperse too their own homes. They all want to know the reason behind Devan’s actions, and those of Hans. They all know Hans was not a nice man, but they never image that he would leave the village like this.
As the villagers left, Devan asked Emil too accompany Uno and Anya home. He would join them soon as he had a word with his wife. So the villagers have something against wizards or what?
Emil could not help but ask. The reaction they had to Devan bothered him more then he would like to admit.
No not Wizards so much, it’s just that there is no history of mages in his bloodline, yet first the boys and now Devan showed the outward signs of wizards. We were all holding breath for the boys to perform their first magic. Especially since Lainey only carried them to term, of all her pregnancies.
How many times were she pregnant
Anya could not help but ask.
Four time before the twins and twice thereafter. The last was about three moons ago
A tear left Anya’s eye, she could not think how that must feel, to loss you unborn child, six of them. Emil looked at Uno long and hard. How far along was she?
Seven moons every single time.
Now tears were sliding down Uno’s face too. I cried with my grandbaby every time. You know she lost her mother when she was barely ten summers. I had to help raise her.
A soft sob escaped Uno.
I’m sorry old mother. Long ago I also ones knew a women how had lose unborn after unborn. That is way I asked.
And do you know why it had happened?
My mother told us that my sister lost her babes because her husband was a wizard and we were from the lines of fae. She always said the lines don’t mix well. Seeing Devan with the mark of wizard, is there any change there could be fae in your granddaughters line?
Fae? No not from my side or her granddaddy’s side. But Jauco had the light almost white hair normally associated with fae, and the light almost clear eyes. Maybe from her father’s side, but we’ll never know.
Where is her father?
Jauco left when Lainey was sixteen. He always said the island had too many painful memories. We never heard from him again.
‘Was this the reason Lainey went through all the pain and suffering, but where did the wizard line in Devan came from?’
Anya looked at Emil. She was intrigued he said he was from the fae? Uno said they normally had light hair yet Emil had dark almost raven black hair. Emil?
Yes Anya.
I hope you do not take this as too personally but...
Please continue.
Emil said as they entered the shack.
You said you are from the fae line. Uno just said fae have light hair and eyes, yet...
Ah... Is the question why do I have dark hair?
Anya just nodded. She felt like a fool. Every day she learn another myth is real in this place, will it even end?
I have black hair curtsey of my father. Unlike the rest of my family, whom were all blessed with my mother beautiful white hair. Hers was white as snow, back then the fae line was not so thinned now as it now is in most families. That is also, I belief why the knowledge of the blood differences was lost. Too many races are mix now. Pure bloods, or close to pure are very rare. It was already started to be a problem back just before the vampires were outs. I always thought we were outs as a race because we could not interbreed like all the others.
I always thought it was because of the blood drinking issues.
Uno said Or rather that is what the history lessons try to let us belief.
If it really was the blood, why would they bother to keep us alive? Why send food seasonally? Why not just let us perished? It would have been cheaper for the government.
I never thought of it that why. But don’t you argument that they would have let your race parish still stand. If they dislike that you are pure?
Maybe it has to do with the balance of things and the royal court should still be rather untainted. They would not like pure bloods exterminated, do you not belief so?
"As far as I know and we could ask Devan to confirm this. No one had heard of the Fae Court or the Werewolf Royals in
