TARANTULA SCHOOL LESSON
image%201_GS.jpgThe Marsh family lived in one of the terraced houses that lined the stretch of road in Wandsworth town, of Britain. They lived there for ten years. Lisa and Joe had two sons, Tom was fourteen years old and Peter was thirteen. Lisa Marsh was of white working class parents who had lived in Wandsworth all of their lives. Joe was black and son of African immigrants. Tom was mixed race together with Peter. Around the corner and not far from where they lived were buildings occupied mostly by immigrants that had moved to the town not long ago.
Wandsworth used to be quiet and solemn. It turned into a bustling hubbub. Joe and Lisa lived in harmony as much as possible as family. Summer period was enjoyable and was looked forward to.
Tom was so talented and gifted while Peter and his parents were supportive towards him. It was a pride to them. It was an exciting period to them at that time to see their children happy and then also help them through in life. It was also challenging for them as well. Though they wouldn’t have wished for anything more or better for themselves at that time.
It was school time and Tom was in his class to learn. The lesson was Biology but the teacher was not in class.
Tom looked up in the classroom where there was a spider nestling at the corner of the wall. He was least concerned but still showed it to one of the students who screamed as if he had never seen one before.
I hate spiders and would not like to see one
the student said to Tom who looked surprised.
If you wouldn’t like to see one it means you wouldn’t like to see something else which is as strange and movable as spider.
Tom childishly said to the student.
Of course!
he replied Tom.
Not long after a female teacher walked into the classroom.
You are suppose to have biology lesson now
she said to the students Am I right?!!
The students did not answer but only kept quiet and expected the teaching to start.
There are many creatures and it includes the various spiders and animals as well.
She said as the students were seated and listening to her teaching.
Spiders feed on insects and have many legs
she continued as the students were listening with rapt attention.
She showed them the diagrams of spiders on charts which were placed on the classroom wall. There were many charts which covered that of spiders. The teacher even went ahead to draw the spider on the board for the students to see.
Suddenly there was this loud noise from the front of the classroom. It was made by Tom who slammed his feet on the hard floor for reasons which everyone else were not sure of. The teacher looked in the direction of Tom in such surprise at his sporadic attitude.
1b.jpgI thought there was a spider on my leg. It was actually a cramp! I am so sorry for the disturbance!
Tom said to everyone in the classroom. Some of the students chuckled while some others looked in awe at Tom’s behaviour.
You should be sorry Tom because the class was disrupted by you, wasn’t it!
she said to him Can I now go on teaching?
They all screamed Yes, yes, yes, ...!
to the teacher. She wanted to get on teaching the children about spiders.
She had not started to continue teaching when she staggered a bit after the experience of spiders. SHE WAS TIRED indeed and was forced to postpone the lessons. We will have to continue next time from where we stop
she said to the children. They were relieved and soon packed their books to put away into their school bags. Tom was haunted by the creepy creature and thought never to experience that again. He finished for the day and was at home.
Then came nighttime at home. He was faced with the same creature in his sleep, of course the tarantula. He rolled over and over on his bunk bed. He slept below while Peter was above.
1c.jpgTom had a wonderful dream. It was wonderful because it exposed him to what he never knew, but made him haunted because it was creepy. In the dream a tarantula spider appeared to Tom to give him an insight into his future. The spider wanted Tom to know what the future held for him.
The spider finally said to Tom in the dream after a discussion with him.
You will make a good musician, go on and good luck. You are a star, my friend!
Is that all!
Tom said in the dream to the spider. He got up from bed and was sweating in what looked like there was a ferocious battle in his dream. He then wiped his face. That was how he knew that he would play music in future. He then took the dream serious.
CHAPTER TWO
SCHOOL RUN
It was a lovely bright day and there was the blue sky above in the neighbourhood of Maiden street where Lisa and her family lived. She was happy and excited to be living there. She always wanted to be part of this area. There were normally events that occurred each time amongst the residents. This makes life interesting and worth living for the residents in Maiden street. Lisa was already used to the style in the street.
Tom and Peter were at college and would not finish until five o clock in the evening. Lisa went to pick them because she would not trust them to come home on their own. This was because they would stay longer at the college playing and talking away with their friends and not remembering one bit about returning home. So Lisa by all means had to race down to the college to collect them. She usually bundles both of them into her white car for their journey back home.
On this day, as she was going to collect them she was forced to stop at the traffic light even though the light showed green for the cars to go. She saw a few boys from the same college as that of Tom and Peter by the well known uniform they wore. They were not actually Tom and Peter but Lisa thought they were. She almost caused an accident where the car behind her screeched so hard with such strong braking. The driver behind her hooted his horn to show his annoyance towards Lisa!
2a.jpgBut Lisa in actual fact wanted to be sure that Tom and Peter were waiting for her in the college compound and not loitering off away from the vicinity of the college.
Goodness me! I thought Tom and Peter were walking down just as I saw these children.
She said to herself.
I wont in any way want them to trek home when I am on my way to pick them. They can be naughty at times!!!
she thought.
But just as she looked at her left hand side there was Tom standing by the road and beckoning for her to stop. She was surprised but had to stop to pick him.
Where is Peter?
she asked him.
He is inside the college compound
Tom replied her as she went straight to collect Peter in the school and wondered why Tom wandered off while Peter was obedient to stay inside the college compound.
Lisa was after all less concerned about the confusion of the timings while expecting that they would both be waiting in the school compound for her. She moved off in her car anyway and finally got to the college gate. Lisa and Tom got down from the car to walk towards the college gate. The college was easily recognised by the continuous screaming noise that came from it. The screaming was so unending and deafening to human ear. The children were busy playing and throwing balls and objects at each other. She was in front of the gate with Tom where she waited a few minutes with a few other parents that had come to pick up their children as well. She felt like banging on the gate because she was in a hurry but could not act in such disrespectful manner so as not to sully her children’s image.
2b.jpgShe was getting impatient waiting longer than expected. Peter was inside behind the gate raising and waving his hand so that Lisa could see him. Lisa peered through the gate openings and placed her face so close to catch a glimpse of him through the gap between iron bars of the shut gates. He played around the compound flying kite which he made from an old newspaper. He wished to go back flying it if his mum would not notice him while still standing there putting his hand up. The gates were opened and the parents all walked in large groups to collect their children at five o clock in the afternoon. On their way back home she asked Tom and Peter How was school today?
Good!!
they both replied her.
"I did not know you will be coming that early. We
