    Chapter 1

The school auditorium echoed with boisterous chatter among friends and classmates...that is, until Professor Étouffée entered the room. A hush of quiet cascaded down the rows of seats as he brushed past, his large, lumpy back sliding toward the front. By the time he had reached the stage, you could hear the porcupines’ pins drop.

For example, did you know that green sea turtles are so brave and strong that their mamas leave them on the sand in their eggs and feel confident they will find their way into the ocean all by themselves? An elephant in the back row put his feet to his face in shock, shaking his head in disbelief at the wolf spider in the next seat.

That’s even hard for me to imagine, and you best believe I’ve seen a whole lotta things, the Professor admitted. "My own mama kept me real close for, well, for quite a while that’s for sure. But sometimes green sea turtle
