About this ebook

Everyone has aspirations and dreams that define us and set us apart from the crowd. Mine is simple: be good to others and hope the same to be returned to me. But life…it never goes as one aspires it to be. There's always something that startles life's boat and sends us convulsing at different periods of our lives. Perhaps the tragic turn of events has made me this bitter and, perhaps, even non-comprehensible for many. So, allow me to narrate my story from the start.

Ever since I was a boy, I wanted to create an impact. I wanted to be successful in life, I wanted people to recognize my efforts, and I wanted to do good to the people. It was simple again: do good and receive good. Or perhaps, I was too naïve.

God Works Miracles - Stenson Edward Tolan

    Chapter 1: Life...

EVERYONE HAS ASPIRATIONS and dreams that define us and set us apart from the crowd. Mine is simple: be good to others and hope the same to be returned to me. But life...it never goes as one aspires it to be. There’s always something that startles life’s boat and sends us convulsing at different periods of our lives.

As a young boy, my first job was cutting grass and mowing lawns. Although many people would consider this job boring, I never missed a day because I believed it to be my moral responsibility, and how could I not mention the satisfaction I got after receiving my allowance. It was as if my hard work was returned to me in another form—in currency papers stamped from my blood and sweat. I loved every bit of the process.

Every sphere of my life reflects my ideology of working hard and helping and lifting others. My work record shows my dedication to creating a difference and my now personal life...well, that is a story that is burdening my heart the moment I’m documenting my voice.

It was not all bad in the beginning. As I mentioned earlier, life’s boat convulses at different periods, and not at all times.

My family life as a child had its ups and downs. My mother divorced my father, and my custody was given to her. She raised me well and taught me to be resilient toward life. Although I was grieving the loss of a split family, my mother showed me an optimistic angle to an otherwise devastating situation, and I am forever thankful to her for this act of kindness.

In my adolescent years, I met the love of my life. She was the girl whose smile could defeat a thousand rainbows. Her eyes glistened with wisdom, and her face was the most angelic one I had ever seen. I fell for her—hard. The commotion in my heart could not stay concealed for long, for I professed my love for her.

She was startled. She did not expect such a bold move from anyone, let alone the most handsome guy from her class (her words, not
