‘I’M SO GRATEFUL FOR MY FOSTER FAMILY’

Jessie Stringer-Fewtrill, 30, lives in Salford.

I can still remember the day I arrived at my foster carers’ house. I was a shy 10-year-old and was overwhelmed by all the hustle and bustle. My foster parents, Maureen and Tex, were in their 50s.

They were well-versed in fostering, having taken in kids for many years. I was terrified and vowed to Maureen that I’d run away, back to my real family. However, she’d heard it all before and never took it personally, understanding the trauma that I’d been through.

I was six when my mum passed away, and my father struggled with alcoholism. Four years later, social services placed me with Maureen and Tex. Settling
