Heaven to Earth - Dr. Cindi L. Mendoza

    DAY 1

    FAITH

I was walking with a few of my teachers headed for our monthly outreach in Rweru, Rwanda. We go out into our neighborhood armed with Bibles and a week’s worth of dry goods. We lay hands on the sick, pray over mud homes and love our neighbors.

On the way to our assigned house, a very slender, elderly lady wrapped in thin sheets as clothing was walking toward us on the dusty pathway. She spoke in Kinyarwanda and let out a grunt. I looked at my coworker and asked what she said.

She said, ‘Come to my house before I die,’ he told me.

Oh, are we going to her house today? I asked a bit distressed thinking she might just die of hunger if we did not give her any food as I switched my heavy load of groceries from one hand to the other.

    No, he replied.

The school was having an Open Day the following week. On Open Days we invite parents for tea and cookies as our students give their presentations. I had an idea! (Though, I have learned, these are not my ideas, these are HIS ideas. They are promptings of the Holy Spirit.)

Invite her to walk with us to the home we are going to, I asked my coworker. Let’s feed her and share the gospel. As we walked back to the school a plan was forming in my mind. Let us invite all the people we have been visiting over the last few days and have a DINNER, not just tea and cookies!

In just a matter of moments I moved the event from a $100 budget to $700. I did not calculate the cost, the logistics, the serving line or anything else. It was a decision to feed this woman a meal prepared in love as we share the Word and told her that our Father up above has His eyes on her.

The following week was Open Day; we served over 1,000 community members, parents, students, and staff members.

Many people would say I have supernatural, extraordinary faith. Yet can I tell you; we all have the same measure of faith. (Rom 12:3) Now, do not close the book so fast. I want you to continue reading and think, I can do that! God can use me! If we all have the same measure of faith, then I do not have more than you. The Lord used the same measuring ladle on all of us. I use my faith. I pray you will use yours as well.

Jesus wants more than tea and cookies; HE wants us to feed them! Feed them the Word of God. Feed them physical food. Have compassion for my sheep. Do not fear. When I stepped out to upgrade my snack to dinner and invited the community, I invited the Holy Spirit to multiply and bless the work of my hands, glorifying our Father.

I have just learned how faith WORKS! I know you want to know as well. Faith is a noun but must be activated or partnered with a verb. Meaning, we must put ACTION with our faith. The half-brother of Jesus, James wrote in chapter 2:14,17 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Thus, faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

The Word of God is telling us we must put our faith to work. My friends, this is where the rubber meets the road. This is the first step in moving mountains in the name of Jesus. The Lord expects to see some action behind our hallelujahs and Praise Jesus and Sunday morning church attendance.

Will you step out today? What is the Holy Spirit prompting you to do? Worship, listen, give, and serve. He has a word for you.

Romans 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of
