Bonfire Of Dreams EBook - Mariano Rigby Jr

    Acknowledgments

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. Psalm 9:1. First, I would like to thank God for all he has done for me and all he’s about to do in my life.

I want to thank my parents Mariano Rigby Sr. and Alexia Buckles, for their undying love and support. I love you both, and I appreciate your sacrifices.

The completion of this project would not have been fulfilled without the support of my language teachers, Ms. Chanise Bailey, Mr. Marcel Gibson, and Ms. Deandra Dorsette whose lessons have brought me thus far. I would also like to thank my editor and publisher, Jaheim Wallace, for his patience and inspiration.

Finally, I would like to thank my family and friends who motivated me along the way; your encouragement is appreciated.

    Preface

Have you ever felt that smoldering warmth?

The undying passion of one's inner self.

The sole reason for your existence.

    What did it feel like?

A fiery dystopia or a dying flame?

    Or perhaps, a bonfire.

    A bonfire filled with dreamers

All cursed with nihilism and depression

Young people, stabbed by the dagger of regret

Clinging to the fire of hope

    Clinging to purpose

    Does the flame feel good?

    Does it terrify you?

    Of course not

    It comforts you

    It rejuvenates your soul

    Makes you whole

    So embrace the bonfire

    Embrace fantasy

    Forget the mundane

    And escape reality

    Importance of Fathers

    Reared in matriarchy

    Absent of a father

    Unclear of his identity

Unfamiliar with the prospect of masculinity

How is he supposed to lead?

When no one was there to show him

How is he supposed to be a man?

    When he’s surrounded by women

So is he right to sought out a father figure?

Should he join a gang to feel loved?

Or should he contain his feelings

    And await eruption

    Does he deserve a father?

Does he deserve an Im proud of you son

Or should he just drift until he reproduces

And starts the cycle all over again

    Anxiety

    Why did I say that?

    Am I an idiot

I bet that's what they think of me

    Nothing more than an idiot

    Don't you see?

    The sweating of my palms

    The lump in my throat

    I'm paranoid

Horrified by the thought of rejection

    Failure

    Embarrassment

    Someone help me

    I’m sinking

    Drowning in my mind

    Shot down by hypotheticals

    I’m shaking
