    Dedication

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

This book is dedicated to our youth

    whose hearts God is chasing!

    Acknowledgment

To my parents, Virginia Douglas and Joseph Allen Maupin.

For as St. Mary loved her firstborn Son, Jesus,

    So deeply and unconditionally.

    Thus do our own mothers.

My mom is now in heaven, and I know that she is looking down on me with an adoring Love that only a mother can give!

As a child, our family had a huge vegetable garden that seemed to go on forever.

My two sisters and I seemed to always be working in it.

I wanted to be doing more fun things. I remember saying that when I grew up,

I never wanted to see another garden.

And yes, Dad, I am now eating my words.

What I would give for a homegrown tomato!

    Chapter One

    Our Deliverer

    Jesus entered this world

    As our Prophet.

    Teaching us right from wrong.

    And showing us God’s heart.

    Jesus left this world

    As our Savior.

    In dying on the cross

To deliver us from our sins!

    The Lost Sheep

As Jesus comes down mightily from heaven on a cloud that expands the sky, His followers are gathered in an instance onto the cloud.

And if our eyes could only see.

As the cloud starts to ascend upwards toward the heavens.

A large crowd of young people is seen jumping up and down,

    Standing inside a circle,

Jumping as high as they can, jostling each other.

With hands and fingers flailing high above their heads,

Desperately straining, trying to reach it.

To be included on the cloud.

All the while, the circle closes in around them, engulfing them.

    They are forever left behind.

But it is not too late!

If we can reach these, our privileged and beloved children.

For no one has taken the time to teach them the simple truth

Of believing and accepting the forgiveness of sins,

    Through Jesus Christ.

To believe that He is the Son of God, thereby receiving eternal life.

So simple and so sad if left too late.

The Stone Which the Builders Rejected

Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture.

    "Behold, I lay in Zion

    A chief cornerstone, elect, precious,

And he who believes on Him

Will by no means be put to shame."

    1 Peter 2:6

    Therefore, to you who believe,

    He is precious;

But to those who are disobedient,

"The stone which the builders rejected

    Has become the chief cornerstone,"

    And

    "A stone of stumbling

    And a rock of offense."

    1 Peter 2:7-8

    Witnesses of Jesus Christ

Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread,

blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.

    Then their eyes were opened, and they knew Him;

And He vanished from their sight.

    And they said
