    Chapter 1

After taking a shower, Carrie put on a pantsuit and hoop earrings as if she were headed into the dental office, where she worked as the office manager. In reality, she had quit her job in a huff on Friday.

Her boss, Micah, had accused her of being late on a project, when he had actually given her the wrong deadline. This was only one of countless hassles and insults Carried had endured over the years, and she had walked out at her lunch break. She was supposed to tell Jonah that she quit over the weekend. He was a third-year graduate student in an engineering program, practically guaranteed a six figure salary when he finally graduated. But he still had several years left on his course of study and needed to write a dissertation on something involving aerodynamics. Right now, Carrie’s salary supported the two of them; naturally, she was incredibly stressed.

Two stressed people should have sex. Instead,
