    The lights in the casino had been giving me a headache for the past two hours, but they were nothing compared to the lights in the elevator. I shuffled in with my hand over my eyes, as if I was looking at the sun. The elevator was like a service elevator: all steel, which only served to reflect the light.

    Dane pressed the number 15, the floor where our rooms were located. Already asleep in the bedrooms were our wives: my wife, Emily, and Dane’s wife, Tawny.

    Dane stood with his hands in his pockets, jiggling change. He had drunk as much as me, but it didn’t seem to affect him at all. But, then again, Dane was a lot bigger than me, by at least six inches and fifty or more pounds. He coughed as the elevator ground to life and started to lift.

    I had met Dane and his wife, Tawny, two years ago, when they had moved to Manor Brook Park, where Emily and I had a real estate office. Dane and Tawny had been looking for a home. They had moved to Ohio from Vegas, where Dane had been a UFC fighter; now, with a broken nose, he made a joke that he was moving to Ohio to get away from the crimes of his youth. He was in his
