About this ebook
My dear friend, may I offer you a divine story in lieu of my customary writing? You see, we've been invited to an incredibly special performance! Not just any performance, might I add, but a special theater. I have our tickets in my hand as we speak. Do you want to spend a memorable evening at a beautiful playhouse? I heard we will both be able to discover divine wisdom and new revelations right here, right now! Let's hurry inside, as they are already turning down the lights. I don't want either of us to stumble to our front row seats in the dark! Can you hear the orchestra already tuning up? Everyone is quiet, anxiously waiting for the beginning. Shall we go now?
This story is told by Steve Porter in his first ever teaching tale. He has also included a very personal letter from his heart. May this profound story touch hearts deeply as we give all glory to God. Read on.

The Way of the Master - A Teaching Tale - Steve Porter
SCENE ONE
The curtain slowly rises as the music plays, with the promise of an unforgettable evening ahead. All at once, the Narrator declares:
But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.
(Jeremiah 17:10)
The scene opens with church pews lined with people and a pastor praying over people at the altar. Many people rushed to the front for personal prayer, weeping and falling on their faces before the Lord.
The last shall be first,
the preacher boldly announced, clearly under the unction of the Spirit.
The people hesitate, appearing confused by his words.
The preacher called for the people in the back of the line to come forward and those in the front to make space for them. Like a mighty rushing wind, the Spirit blew on the assembly, touching everyone.
Then the preacher noticed a man now among those pushed to the back. He was frowning in annoyance, obviously feeling slighted. He was now in a long line and would have to wait a very long time for prayer.
The audience all stood there mesmerized, unsure as to what would happen next.
Suddenly, the Spirit of God convicted the heart of the angry man, and he humbly fell to his knees and repented, bursting into tears and wailing in regret. His attitude was wrong, and everyone in the theater knew it.
The preacher gently touched the man’s shoulder and said,
God compelled me to make my way through the crowd, just for you!
He opened a bottle of the anointing oil and poured the full bottle over the man’s head, who lifted his arms to receive it.
Suddenly, a prophetic word came forth from the crowd:
You are receiving a double portion on this very day because of your fresh humility and repentance.
The man sobbed harder, though he was smiling through it all.
Everyone in admittance is moved by such a holy moment.
As the scene closed the Narrator announced:
Hear the word of the Lord: The church is about to see a great outpouring of the Spirit of God. His power, anointing, and mantles of authority will fall upon many whom He will mightily use in these end times. The Lord is searching for those who truly love and appreciate Him. He is looking for those with humble, contrite spirits, and has no use for those lifted in selfish pride, ego, or self-promotion. Neither will He give place to those who demand to be served and admired.
The curtains close on scene one.
SCENE TWO
Amagnificent, deep voice booms, sounding both noble and virtuous:
All’s Well That Ends Well if you follow the way of the sweet Master who led us with humility.
Around a long, royal table is a large group of stately and dignified people. They are known throughout the kingdom by what they themselves decree.
I am the greatest in this kingdom,
declares Matthew.
Pulling out a freshly-minted business card from his own printing press, Mark argues, No, for I am far more anointed. You can read it for yourself. I am the main Apostle. It’s written right here!
Nonsense,
declares Luke. Maybe you forget that I’m much more qualified and educated than either of you! I am the greatest seated at this table and the greatest in this kingdom.
Peter chuckles and shakes his head.
I see that I’m a prophet without honor at this table. Maybe you’ve forgotten all the prophecies I’ve given, as they’ve already come to pass. In fact, I have them all written down on this very scroll as I love to boast of my accuracy whenever possible. Of course, I do this to give glory to me… I mean to God.
He covers his embarrassment with a laugh.
James says,
Well, the people often forget to recognize the Hand of God on a man’s life. They forget our names and thus do not acknowledge the Lord Himself.
Nodding, Matthew adds,
For once, we all agree that we must help the people remember us. Surely Master Jesus would agree with us, would He not?
The lights go out.
The music wanes.
The crowd is silent, fastened to their seats. Not one person moves or lets out a single breath.
SCENE THREE
Slowly the orchestra begins again—this time with notes that bring the tranquility of heart. In the distance, we see our sweet Master Jesus walking toward
