I
dedicate this book to my ancestors and my children. My ancestors had very little in life but survived happily with what they had. My sons and daughters have better lives but should always remember their ancestors.
We were given lives to enjoy, and we are all able to adjust and make changes!
CHAPTER 1
I WAS THE SECOND OF SEVEN children, six girls and one boy. When I was born, my father was in the navy in England, and my mother couldn’t cope with two small children, so my grandparents took my older sister to live with them.

Then we had to hang all the laundry on clothes lines outside or inside on a clothes horse—a wooden frame—around the fireplace in the living room. That of course was when we had extra coal for the fireplace.
We had meters for the gas and electricity. Occasionally, we would run out of money and have to wait until
