Chapter 1
They were in a big house, with a backyard that, despite having nothing but grass, was great for playing. John woke up, collected his toys, and went out to see the day. There was something different outside. A round, glass plant pot, thrown in the middle of the yard. He walked over and turned that strange globe with his foot. His surprise was to see that it was a glass sphere with something that looked like a planet inside.
Peter,
John shouted, calling his brother. It was just the two of them at home. It was school vacation time. Their parents go out to work every day and leave John with his brother Pedro ten years older.
— What was it this time, John?
— Look what I found.
"This is Mother's potted plant, nothing fancy.
— It is not. It was in the middle of the yard.
So, some kid on the street threw this in here.
It's no big deal.
Haven't you seen what's inside?
A plant?
— Not Pedro. It's a planet.
Pedro moved closer to see the vase and looked through the glass at that mass of earth and grass but found nothing extraordinary.
Leave it there and go inside.
We have homework to do.
John was outraged that Peter did not realize what he had found. It was such a beautiful thing; how come he didn't call? Joao asked himself in his little head.
Disobeying his brother, he continued outside the house looking into the vase. It was very interesting to see that planet with clouds and hills inside a glass vessel.
After a few minutes, John got tired of playing with the globe and left the object thrown at the door of his
