Wiping the sleep out of my eyes, I turned the lock in the back door and opened it.
It was 6am on 11 December 2018, freezing and dark.
But my two dogs Penny and Blossom needed to go out to the garden – it was the same routine every morning.

Only that particular morning, something unusual caught my eye.
About half a mile away from me, I could see what looked like a house on fire.
Oh, my goodness, I thought. What should I do? Shall I call the fire brigade? Or shall I drive over there, see what it is and then call the fire brigade?
Only as I debated what to do, the fire seemed to move.
