About this ebook
Foot health myths, facts and fables
Few foot health books have the benefit of an author who has spent his life working with the public as a podiatric specialist. Misleading health information has emerged disappointing readers with poor-quality material sold at high prices written with less experience. Packed with facts that even professionals will not be aware of, the author takes you from trenches to space, from bacteria to viruses, from humpback bridges to death from an ingrown toenail.
This illustrated book contains 215 pages broken down into 7 manageable chapters supported by references, and an integrated index. The topics cover skin, shape (deformity), infection, pain, and footwear, together with chapters on a general overview of health and an unknown experimental trial within the fables of podiatry.
The author points out on the back cover while awaiting university in London in 1978, he was provided with the most unedifying books that could well have led to him dropping out before commencing his 3 year full-time studies. This book hopefully will change the perspective of foot health and its dedicated profession where once one could only see a profession with limited appeal. The prospective student looking for a career can now appreciate a little more about foot health science in one of the fastest expanding medical health professions in the UK.
What lay readers have said
"I would not want to read a textbook about feet and their problems but this is no textbook - the book is beautifully conceived and flows with questions and answers at a level I can understand and everything is explained very clearly. This author wishes to share his knowledge for the reader's benefit. It is clear that he knows his stuff and makes it interesting. It is engaging and accessible without dwelling too long on anything. It seems to cover a good range of problems and is written in a style that doesn't talk down to me, not trying to impress, not dry and boring." Shaun Global
"This is a fascinating book and even though you may not suffer personally from the many foot problems it is written succinctly. The insights create a learning curve which almost gives the power to cure any foot problems all by yourself. Stuffed with an abundance of facts, supported by figures and data engrossing historical references, together with the origins of medical terminology, make for enlightened reading." Sid Gibson
"Read this book, and you will find much about what it is to be human, not least the healthy dollops of sex and politics. But, unfortunately, in the 21st century, charlatanism in all its human forms is all around us. This book will go a long way to dispelling some of the snake oil fantasies that can cost the footsore so dear. I found this book a very warm cocoon to lose myself in, and I was utterly absorbed and enthralled by it." Professor Tim Kilmartin
"I found the book well researched, intriguing and loved the historical fable additions and anecdotes relating to humorous incidents and stories. This book provides a fascinating insight into the multitude of myths and legends surrounding one of the most important body parts, our feet." Jane Clare, Podiatrist
