About this ebook

Everything you want is on the other side of your greatest fear.

Although we are sometimes resistant, hard times, challenges, and difficulties help make us who we are. Like the transformative metamorphosis from black coal to diamond, only after extreme pressure, and the passing of time, do we see the result. It is up to us whether we focus on the pain or the result.

Many self-help books will say that if we just ask for what we want, we will get it, but what if we never learned to ask for what we really want? In this book, author Karinna Damgård explores how learning from a young age not to trust intuition, not to ask for help for fear of being a burden, has held us back. How will you learn the grandness of truth, if you were always told a lie? How can you learn to empower yourself, if life always taught you the opposite? How can you learn to better yourself if you are always busy watching out for the next big earthquake?

Interweaving personal experiences with her expertise as a clairvoyant, healer, mentor, spiritual advisor, and intuitive soul, Damgård seeks to guide others through an introspective and inspirational step-by-step process that encourages movement away from self-imposed fears and expectations and into a new phase of personal growth where we recognize our own beauty, light, divinity, and how we shine with help from God, even in a chaotic world.

A Touch of Vertigo is a down-to-earth guide that leads positive change seekers down a thoughtful path of personal growth and spiritual transformation to address fears and move forward into a new beginning filled with divine miracles.

    ACCEPT CHANGE

    27188.png

There comes a time when you must leave the known world behind and move on to a new adventure. When you must move on to new dimensions, new levels, of the same life. New people. New surroundings. New furniture. It is physical as well as symbolic.

There comes a time when it is no longer necessary to hold on to the old. A time to release. A time to let go of identity and items and people with whom you identify.

People do this in different ways. Some let go easily—grasping the newly inherited freedom with great excitement and honour for the task ahead. Others feel deeply frightened and feel their foundation is shaking. This is not so; it simply feels like it. But either way works. All it takes is time before the new becomes the old. Before uncertainty becomes and feels like home.

If you want change, you can think about it, you can dream about it, you can talk about it, you can envision it, and you can enlighten it through prayer, meditation, and various other ways. But there comes a time when the inside job needs to be an outside job. You have to roll up your sleeves and become active. Because when the world (the Divine) demands your presence, you have to show up. You can either do this unwillingly—kicking and screaming, which is not recommended. I’ve tried it. Or you can choose to do it with a positive determination. It’s up to you. There’s no halfway here. It’s either/or.

I am a woman, I am a writer, I am a mother, I am a wife, and I am an artist. I am all these things combined, and I am so much more. All of these terms define my present consciousness. But what if I am something much more? What if I am something not yet defined? What if I am something very different than what I think I am? What if what I think I am (and how I think) is defined by the thoughts I use, imprinted by the culture I’ve been brought up in, the family that’s raised me, the people I’ve met, and the friends I’ve connected with? Then my (choice of) reality defines (and limits) my definition of my self.

The definition of the self should be left open, undefined, raw, unlimited, and forever changing.

In our definitions (in our thinking), we should always leave a little room for fate. Leave a little room for the unexpected. Let go of control. Let go of this constant steering and leave room for chance, for circumstance, for the wheel of fortune to kick in. Once you open up to this room of not knowing, of not controlling circumstance (and being relaxed about it), the world is new again. And you will be able to see what is rightfully yours in the light of which it is given. Without judgement. Without limited human perception. You will be able to receive what is rightfully yours through your heart, and there you will be able to act upon it. You will be able to cross the necessary tracks with ease, and you will be able to take that much-needed rest with peace and serenity flowing through your veins. You will be able to enjoy the present as it presents itself, not through illuminated illusionary glasses.

That is, should you choose to let go of control, accept change, and leave room for the unexpected.

    THE METAPHYSICAL SEED

    27134.png

My father, a visionary with a very innovative mind, used to say, There are no such things as problems. If something in your life is a problem, dare to look at it and ask, Does it have a solution? If yes, then it’s not a problem. It’s a task.

Problem resolved. Period. Move on with your new task.

I have inherited this way of thinking. There’s always a solution to a situation given that you understand the underlying aspect of what you consider to be the problem. You may not like the solution, but that’s not the issue here. (That’s a whole other story.) But this way of thinking moves mountains and was a natural part of my upbringing.

My mother, in contrast, bulldozes everyone with love, home-cooked food, and advice for the soul. Our home was an open door, a constant inferno, always stacked with people coming and going. Room for all sorts. And always open for young, stray, unhappy souls who needed an ear and a meal and a message for the road.

What they have passed on to me—a visionary mind and a big heart—I honour deeply.

Through the ages, many have interpreted the metaphysical tradition, its philosophy, its perceptions, and its sacrificial doings and sayings. There are many words. There are many descriptions. Some are right and some wrong.

Because the spiritual tradition, the metaphysical wisdom, is a seed—forever growing, forever changing, depending on the environment, the agriculture, the fertilisers, the doings, and the don’ts—there is not a fixed curriculum. It is a practice experienced. There are rituals and ceremonies, but only to serve. Only through gratitude from the heart do you enter the sacred wisdom of this tradition, this knowledge of working with the Divine and whispering with the wind. Through trials and errors, you are guided. Everything is felt, inhaled, and digested with respect for all living beings and non-beings.

Given the right fertiliser, a plant will grow. Given the wrong fertiliser, it will die. So intentions are not enough. Learning from elders, listening to wisdom, and respecting insight is everything—combined with your own wisdom learned through understanding and practice. Sharing this with the world is key. Just like the world is not only for the ones who can afford to live here (no bird has ever paid entrance; no fish has ever dined in a restaurant), no one owns this knowledge. It is not for the chosen few. It is for the world. The world is symbiotic with energetic exchanges. Of giving and taking. Of inhaling and exhaling.

Sometimes some of the most sacred things in the world are hidden in plain sight, and the metaphysical tradition is not New Age knowledge. It is an ancient philosophy of pure know-how, of how to actually be in the world. How to connect with your self and with the ebb and flow of nature. How to see, watch, listen, and feel. How to bring forth all these attributes within ourselves. How to bring them forth into the world to be cherished and used rightfully.

Understanding these aspects, and how to work with them and make them work for you, relieves the stress of everyday competition and leaves behind worries. This teamwork with nature, this understanding of oneness, makes everyone a winner and invites no one to sit on the loser’s bench.
