DEDICATION
This book and all my successes are wholeheartedly dedicated to all the people who have guided me, supported me, challenged me, and loved me along my journey.
Most importantly I’d like to dedicate it to:
My children, Chandler Grant and Charlie Grant, who have provided me the priceless privilege of being their mother; and the daily opportunity to practice gratitude, selflessness and unconditional love.
You both will eternally have and be a piece of my heart.
The Dalai Lama,
when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered:
"Man!
Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future
that he does not enjoy the present;
the result being that he does not live in the present
or the future;
he lives as if he is never going to die,
and then dies having never really lived."
- His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

PREFACE
Legendary coaches, like NBA Coach Phil Jackson, have recognized the significance of a strong mental game. Phil Jackson coached his teams to 11 NBA titles; and holds the NBA record for the most titles as a coach. He says that through his coaching career with Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers he used mindfulness practices to build the teams. Believing that mental strength is just as important as physical strength; he taught his teams focus, one-pointed attention, and the ability to be in concert with each other during times of need. When his athletes came off the court, had a bad call, or when things weren’t going so well… they knew how to sit on the bench, take a deep breath, collect and reset themselves. Practices included mind training, with mental skills that were applied on game day.
What keeps powerful, elite athletes going strong season after season? According to LeBron James he attributes his personal happiness and much of his 17 successful basketball seasons to his mental fitness. Saying in an interview with Calm: "mental fitness means that when I walk into a room, or step onto a court, I’m prepared, relaxed, and present." (James, L., interview conducted by Calm, 11 Dec. 2019).
For the last 19 years I have known that I would publish a book that would make my mental training available to the world. What I didn’t know at that time, was that, over the years, my focus would change from helping people with their stressors and debilitating habits; to helping Elite Athletes experience Peek Performance and Winning Mindsets.
Athletes, of all kinds, from all over the world, have sought out me and my work. Before I knew it, I was a leading edge Mental Trainer with a reputation globally that proceeded me. For some athletes, their work with me was, or is, a secret. That’s right, I have been a secret weapon of Elite Professional Athletes, World Champions, Hall-Of-Famers, Olympians, and Olympic-Hopefuls for dozens of years. In a ton of ways being a secret
has been great and is truly quite the compliment. It is verification that what I offer works so well that the Pros don’t want their competition to have the same advantage. But like everything… it has it’s pros and cons. Being a secret
wasn’t always easy on me. It use to bother me when I would fly across the country, put hard time into helping a Pro Athlete with their biggest fears, participate in their emotional break-throughs, help them get past their debilitating mental obstacles, watch them literally go out and win… only to witness them publicly ignore me, turn their back, and act like they didn’t even know me. This has happened more times than you could imagine. To this day, due to my code of ethics, I only speak of the Pros who have given me permission to reference them or have given me written testimonials. Many a day was spent walking golf courses at PGA TOUR Tournaments, cursing the heavens for putting me on this path. You see, I didn’t choose to be a Sport Mental Trainer, it chose me. Back in the early 2000s, I was hell bent that I would have my hypnosis practice on Amelia Island, write a few books, and just
help normal
people make profound, positive changes… to get past their fears, anxieties, sleep issues, confidence problems, and unhealthy habits. My business was thriving and I was very happy saving the day for people that had tried everything else.
But then a different genre of humans started seeking me out… the Competitive Athlete.
Fast forward to this day and time, I am so entrenched in the world of Competitive Sports and Athletes, I actually own my very own shotgun sports club! At my club in Northeast Florida, Amelia Shotgun Sports, I offer my mental training to Competitive Shooters (and other athletes) from all over the world; and have a school there to facilitate my lectures, clinics, and workshops, the Dawn Grant Mind Training School. To tackle the needs and requests of people I encounter, I have also developed several Online Mental Training Courses. They are available via my website www.DawnGrant.com.
Through all this, I have come to see that no matter the sport, Competitive Athletes want the same things… they want a SECRET ADVANTAGE, a leg up over their buddies, and to be the best in their sport. Yeah, these folks don’t mess around. One even wanted to be The Best Putter In The World.
Many of you know him, PGA TOUR Golf Pro Vijay Singh. In 2008, after having a well documented, potentially career ending bought with putting issues, Vijay sought out my help due to the encouragement of his Personal Trainer, Jeff Fronk. Vijay and I worked together for 3 full days prior to the first event of the 2008 FedEx Cup Playoff Series. Vijay specifically asked if I could help him be The Best Putter In The World.
I will never forget my hesitation when he spoke those words to me, but then I thought… well, with his superhuman level of skill, drive and determination; combined with my mental training, we can do this! So we did. I’ll keep the details private to myself. But what is exciting to share is that over a period of a few weeks, Vijay went from 125th on the PGA TOUR ranking in putting average to 7th place, he broke a tournament record with 22-under-par at the Deutsche Bank Championship, he won $13 million+ dollars, and he earned the title of 2008 FedEx Cup Champion. Vijay and I parted ways after those life changing weeks, but fortunately, before doing so, he emailed me and gave me permission to use his testimonial.
As requested, Vijay became The Best Putter In The World,
a title that he himself proclaimed while being interviewed live, by the Golf Channel, regarding his sudden turn around in performance.
Yep, Competitive Professional Athletes had walked into my life. They were serious, they were committed to work, they were disciplined, they were devoted, they followed my instructions, and they happily participated in my training process. Because they wanted to win deep down in the depths of their souls, they did whatever it took to have an advantage. Most initially only wanted the seemingly magic wand of hypnosis that I could provide to them… a quick fix that worked a large percentage of the time. But, after working with hundreds of athletes and hearing the same problems, the same mind blocks, the same limitations… and hearing myself give the same solutions; my training developed a sequence and a process. My Mental Training Program evolved organically over a dozen years in thousands
