PREFACE
The 16 days of activism to focus on the abuse of women and children in South Africa come and go every year. These days are marked by national, provincial and local marches and speeches against these horrible phenomena. Nevertheless, the abuse of women and children increases every year.
The foundation of the argument of this booklet is that the focus of these days should be changed. The focus on crimes against women and children should be on men – specifically on fathers. This should be the case because it is a well known fact that most crimes against women and children occurs in the confines of the home, where the father should be in charge.
Therefore the aim of this booklet is to start the debate on changing the way we father our children in South Africa. The premises of this booklet is that many of the men officiating in our homes as fathers (where they are absent or even present), are B-R-O-K-E-N men that needs R-E-P-A-I-Ring. (More about the R-E-P-A-I-R the B-R-O-K-EN counseling program where every letter serves as an acronym follows later on).
There are B-arriers, they experience R-ejection, they are O-ffended, K-nocked-out, E-motional drained and Negatively focused. For this reason they need repairing in their R-elationships, E-nthusiasm, Personalities, and taught to A-ccept personal responsibility with Integrity followed by the necessity to R-epent and turn to reconsider a normal, balanced God honoring lifestyle.
To attain this, the author started R-E-P-A-I-R the B-R-O-K-E-N as a counselling service to repair and retrain fathers, mothers and children in the practice of Biblical living. The dream is to train qualified R-E-PA-I-R the B-R-O-K-E-N counselors to thus start a movement to uproot the problem of crimes against women and children – by putting the focus on the fathers. Even the legal system can benefit from this initiative.
Family life in South Africa but also all around the world is in big trouble. The emergency signals are being activated on a 24-hour basis from the troubled ships in the stormy seas of family life. The home, the school, the church, the courts, the crime statistics, the everincreasing suicidal attempts, drug laundering, teenage pregnancies, school dropouts and many other factors confirm this truth: The family is in trouble and if there is going to be done something about it, it must be done very soon before it is too late. These facts addressed a longfelt need I had, to write a few notes on the crucial role of fathers in our society. In a relevant meeting earlier this year by interested parties,
