Prayers for the Pandemic - Jo Ann Levitt
1. Rogue Wave
You are riding the wave of
Uncertainty
The fine line between
Above and below
Between living and dying
Or learning to let it all go
Sturdy the vessel
Make it air tight
As you ride, let it cling
To the passing Dark Night
As you ride the Rogue Wave
To the top of the crest,
Fall, let it fall, you
Will tumble in flight
While the wave simply drops you
Into your new life
2. Where You Belong
Do not feel pushed into the world
Resist the urge to do or be
All that you did and acted upon
Was a great performance
But the curtain just went down
Get out of the way
Leave your old familiar
Slightly upside down
Slide into this Mystery and
Do not rest until you faithfully erase
All remnants of your history
You are not now anything that
You were before
Stop residing in this tiny
Hovel of your own device
You’d have more room in a
Dog house or bedding down with
Mice
Come out of narrowness and
Embrace your new Habitat
Which is the world
But even this world as you know it
Is no longer this world, as you know it
You must go within
In order to finally emerge
Releasing relentless portraits, images
And words
Layer upon layer that suffocated
Life and dreams
For it is clear that nothing in you is
As it seems
And that’s because the
Small encasement that you
Called the Self
Has truly exceeded its
Self-Life
But not in the
