About this ebook

Andy is a little boy, who no matter how hard he tries is having trouble keeping still and paying attention for long periods. He gets into trouble often and his school work is suffering. But it all changes when his mother decides to seek answers for his problems. Active Andy is a child-friendly look at Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and includes some of the processes from diagnosis to treatment, in hopes of helping children, like Andy, understand better what they are going through, as well as to dispel the notion that they are simply naughty. With better awareness of self and the situation he is experiencing, Andy gains a increase sense of self-confidence as he seeks to improve his general functioning.

DeAnn Beckles-Lewis

DeAnn Beckles-Lewis is a registered Clinical Psychologist from the island of Barbados in the Caribbean. With over 12 years experience working with that nation’s children with developmental disabilities, she has found it necessary to find new child-friendly ways to help parents explain different diagnoses to their children. She is also the mother of two boys, who challenge her daily to look beyond the momentary levels of activity and impulsivity as she helps them to develop to their optimal capacity. The book was conceptualized with the context of the Caribbean in mind, as many of our resources are from outside the region; however, it is certainly applicable to all contexts.
