About this ebook

Today many churches have embraced “easy-believism” – mental assent to all the facts about Jesus will get them to heaven. They say they believe, have faith in, or have put their trust in the following Scripture.
“GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.”
—(JOHN 3:16)(NIV)

I think these people do believe everything about Jesus from His being deity, took on the form of man, was sinless, took on their sin, was punished, crucified, arose from the grave on the third day, is in heaven now, and will be the final judge of both the children of God and the children of the devil.
However, the demons also believe everything from Jesus incarnation to the fact he will be their final judge. When Jesus approached the demon possessed man, the demons said, “What do you want with us, son of God? Have you come to torture us before the appointed time?”
—(Matthew 8:29)(NIV)

In Matthew 7:21, at the final judgement, Jesus tells people who have been prophesizing in His name, casting out demons in His name and even doing miracles in His name, “Depart from me I never you!”
We know the demons are not going to heaven, but what is missing in the lives of the people who do miraculous things in Jesus name?
Furthermore, Jesus in three of His parables tells us about people that act like, think like, and believe they are Christians – children of God, but they are not.
Believing in Jesus means not only believing in what He did for us but what He said. Jesus says there are three other things we must do to become a child of God. Other Scriptures declare other requirements for becoming a child of God.
This book challenges us to examine ourselves to see if we have met and committed to all those requirements.

    Introduction

Let me share a little history about myself. I was thirty-eight years old and for years I had considered myself a Christian. I believed in Jesus and John 3:16 says that people that believe in Jesus will inherit eternal life in heaven. I believed in, had faith in, and trusted in everything about Him as to Who He was, and what He had done for me.

I believed in His giving up His deity to come to earth and His virgin birth. I believed He was tempted as we are but remained sinless. He had taken on my sins and He was beaten, crucified and died taking on my punishment. I believed He died, was put in a tomb and like no religious leader before or after, He arose from the dead, went to heaven, and was preparing a place for me. He was seated at God’s right hand and was interceding for me. I believed in substitutionary atonement.

I was trying to live a righteous, sin-free life. I was failing but knew if I asked for forgiveness, God promised to forgive me. I taught an adult Sunday school class and sang in the choir. I was Chairman of the Official Board, an administrative position, and Lay Leader, a spiritual leadership position in my denomination. According to the rules of the denomination, a person was not supposed to hold both positions. But because the minister thought I was such a good Christian, he decided to bypass the rules. I was also called upon to preach sermons in our church or other churches in our denomination on special occasions or to give the regular minister some time off.

Although I don’t remember the reason, one day our minister asked me to give the sermon on a Sunday, several weeks away. I must admit, I didn’t hesitate a second or ask for time to pray about it. I immediately said, Sure! The reason was that I had been thinking about what I would preach. It was Why a Christian should read their Bible every day.

The truth was I never read it or opened it unless I was studying for a Sunday school lesson or sermon. I don’t believe I had memorized a single Scripture that I could give the chapter and verse. But, I had paraphrased a few verses that I would use to look like a good Christian to others. I was certain that preaching another sermon would have the same effect as the Bible verses that I had paraphrased. It would make me look like a good Christian that read his Bible regularly, if not daily.

I decided I would start in Matthew and read fifteen minutes a day before work. I would look for Bible verses that I could use in my reading that I could work into something that happened after that and how what I had learned from my Bible reading had helped me in that situation. The third morning, I started my reading with Mathew 7:21. It says:

"NOT EVERYONE WHO SAYS TO ME, ‘LORD, LORD,’ WILL ENTER THE
