The Vessel God Will Use - Florence Ngeneka

    Chapter 1

    The Vessel God Will Use

In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

    —2 Timothy 2: 20–21 NIV

The Church of Jesus Christ is a large house with different categories of worshippers. Now each has a different level of relationship with the Master. Their commitment to the Word of God in putting the scriptures to work in their daily living makes them special vessels to be used by God to accomplish His divine purpose in the kingdom.

The scriptures talked about vessels of wood and clay. These are different classes of believers who cannot endure the temptation to sin. They are quick to compromise when the opportunity for them to live up to the standard of their faith and to give glory to the Father.

The Word talked of God’s method of purification as the same way how a goldsmith purifies raw gold by allowing it to go through different stages of purification by fire before the beautiful, shining metal we know as gold becomes very precious and expensive. It was not dug out like that, and it came with much dirt. God wants all His children to go through the process of transformation by the Word and the Spirit, so during this process, those whose character is represented as wood and clay cannot endure the fire of temptation and persecution, so they cannot be used as vessels of God for His purpose.

The vessels of God can be defined as those who have allowed themselves to be purified by the Word and the fire of the Holy Spirit. They are those who have been trained to conquer temptations and persecutions. They have refused to yield to the law of sin and death. This class of believers are no longer controlled by the flesh but are led by the Spirit. They are those who are filled with divine wisdom and knowledge and spiritual wisdom to please the Father always, no matter the cost.

    Chapter 2

    The Starting Point

You cannot be used by God unless you first receive salvation. Somebody might be asking what salvation is. It is the process God has provided for all mankind to be saved, reconciled, redeemed, justified, and adopted by God as His children.

In the beginning, God created man in His image and likeness and asked them to rule over the works of His hand and to also multiply and fill the whole earth with their kind. God loved them so much He never wanted them to be lacking, so He prepared a special place called the Garden of Eden and placed them there. Then God gave them instruction to eat all manner of plants in the garden with the exception of one called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and He told them the day they should eat of it, they would surely die.

Remember, God created man and woman. The woman was to be the helpmeet of her husband, Adam, and the wife’s name was Eve. They were permitted to eat the other plants in the Garden of Eden; the tree of life was also included. Now God’s original purpose for mankind was to live forever, hence the commandment to abstain from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Not too long, the tempter—also known as Satan—came and deceived Eve to eat the fruit of the very tree that God commanded them not to eat, with convincing words that it will make her wise and make her become like God. That might have triggered something in her that could have made her think that the Creator was keeping something away from them, which led her to disobey the divine counsel that plugged the human race to both spiritual death and physical death, meaning, men lost the capacity to live forever on earth and also lost their right to Satan to rule over the earth. The scriptures tell us that Satan is the god of this world.

Later, Adam and Eve were driven away from the Garden of Eden after God pronounced the judgments for their disobedience, which became the consequence of sin to mankind and all living things on earth as we see them today. It is the reason everything dies, meaning, death is not just the cessation of life but the corruption of existence. It is the root of sicknesses, aging, wickedness, and all kinds of Satan worship, which gave birth to what the Bible describes as the power of darkness or the kingdom of darkness where Lucifer is their master.

In order for God to bring man and the earth to His original purpose, God needed to redeem man. God’s vision for the salvation of mankind began in Genesis 3:15, but the program started with Abraham in Genesis 12:1–3, when God called him out to be the father of many nations and told him that through him, all the nations of the earth shall be blessed. He became the first father of the Hebrew nation. Through the lineage of Abraham, Moses was called to deliver the Israelites in bondage in the land of Egypt, where God used him mightily to introduce the law, which was the shadow of the things to come.

When the fullness of time for the manifestations of God’s reconciliation program came, a virgin was enveloped by the Holy Spirit, and she conceived and gave birth to Jesus Christ—who is Immanuel, meaning God—to be with us to save His people from their sin, and His mother’s name was Mary.

The scriptures called Him the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the whole world. Now Jesus Christ walked the earth for about three years, pleasing the Father in all things. In Him, no sin was found. He walked in signs and wonders, for God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power until the appointed time set by God. He was delivered to be crucified for the sin of the world, but death could not hold Him captive by the divine counsel of God. The power of the Holy Spirit resurrected Him from the dead for our justification.

Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification (Romans 4:25 KJV).

For everyone to be saved and have eternal life, we must believe that we lost as the result of the sin of Adam and Jesus died for his sins and was resurrected for his justification.

    As Many Who Will Believe

When anyone hears the gospel, faith is impacted. If they believe the gospel and repent of their sin and receive our Lord Jesus Christ into their spirit as their Lord and Savior, such people immediately become new creatures through the operation of the Holy Spirit known as regeneration; such people automatically become children of God and are enlisted into the kingdom of heaven.

If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved (Rom 10:9–10 NIV).

    New Life Begins

Now that you have made Jesus Christ the lord of your life, you now have a new life and God has become your Father. The old you, which was completely separated from God, is dead and buried (see 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV).

    Growing in Him

Since your relationship is established in Christ through faith, it is your responsibility to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, there are steps and attitude you must develop to come to maturity in Him:

    1) You must crave for the Word of God. The Word of God is the reveled knowledge of who God is and His vision and purpose for humanity and His children. It is the instruction manual for all children of God to make them wise for salvation so that they may fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.

Like new born babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation (1 Peter 2:2 NIV).

The Word of God is infused with the power to transform your mind. It is important to note that you are a spirit and you have a soul that lives in a body. It was your spirit that got born again, but your soul—which is comprise of the mind, the will, and the emotions. These three components that make up your soul need to be transformed by the Word of God to enable you to walk and live according to God’s will.

You must understand that before we got born again, we have developed some attitude over the years that are contrary to the principles of God because of the sinful nature we were born with; but as new creatures, we are a new species of being. For us to function in full capacity of who we have become in Christ, we need to delete every character ruled by the senses—which is the wisdom of this world that will not endure forever and has its origin from Satan—and replace them with the Word of God, which is the wisdom of God that abides forever and helps us to live pleasing Him day to day and become effective and productive in the area of our calling. This process is known in the scriptures, in Romans 12:2 NIV, as transformation.

The process of transformation for a believer is a continuous process through the constant studying of the Word. The way we need food to get the required nutrients to grow, stay healthy, and have strength to carry out our day-to-day activities is the same way we need the Word of God to grow and be enlightened and filled with spiritual knowledge, wisdom, and understanding to come to full maturity in Christ and to become skillfull to administer the Word of God in thought, speech, and action.

The Word of God is very important to all believers because God cannot deal with us above the revelation of His Word, meaning our relationship with Him will be limited. He wants us to be filled with His fullness, which will cause us to walk in the supernatural and become a true representative of His kingdom on earth.

    2) You need to desire and receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is very important in the life of a believer. Without Him, it is impossible to serve God and to be used by Him. Our Lord Jesus Christ could not fulfill God’s mandate without first being filled with the Holy Spirit.

The first time our Lord Jesus Christ was filled with the Holy Spirit was immediately after John the Baptist finished the baptismal sacrament for Him. As He came out of the water, the Holy Spirit came on Him like a dove, and the voice of the Father affirmed Him for the work of the ministry, which He could not fulfill unless by the anointing.

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him (Acts 10:38 NIV).

    3) You need to receive the Holy Spirit by faith. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God to all believers; therefore, it is your responsibility to receive Him into your spirit by faith.

When Jesus walked the earth before His death and resurrection, the disciples were not baptized by the Holy Spirit because the Lord was not yet glorified, but they operated with delegated authority. That was why they were able to cast demons and perform signs and wonders when the Lord was still with them, but He never failed to let them know the coming of another one exactly like Him who would abide with them forever to teach them; to remind them
