J. G. Mack is a resident of McHenry, Illinois, for thirty-three years and a retired union plumber. He is a proud father of two very successful adult children raised in McHenry as well. He is also a US Navy vet (1974–1980), with an honorable discharge. He is an academic researcher, a fledgling writer, and a newly published author and huge fan of the McHenry Public Library and staff.

Traveling long distances can take a toll on a normal person. Charlie Taylor, however, is not your normal person. From Springfield to Shreveport and on to Memphis, followed by Charlotte, North Carolina, it’s been a hell of a journey for the young man. However, this journey is just picking up steam.
Most ordinary people by this time have had enough. Living in hotels and motels, night after night, and eating fast food day after day started to wear down the sales force of the Globe Reader. Except for the manic one. Charlie T is ready to rock.
So far, the young Mr. Taylor has been able to avoid what in medical terms is known as a manic episode. This term means a person diagnosed with manic behavior is in a mood state, characterized by one week of constant anxiety, very little sleep, also accompanied by a long list of other various issues. One full week of the above, and it’s time for a thirty-day stay at whatever hospital is available.
As a close friend of Charlie’s, he told me his secret to avoid a manic episode. He said, Harvey, when the doctor diagnosed me as manic, I felt that every day of my life was important. This is what gives me the strength to move on and live my life on my own terms.
I sat stunned, thinking what a beautiful and genius way of beating this. By the way, I’m his good friend and confidant, Harvey Trotter. Charlie and I met a few years back and have been close friends ever since. He loved to
