The Bean and Cheese Collection of Poems and Reflections - M.M. Casanova Jr
I AM SORRY
Okay, sweetheart, I cussed today a lot, too much.
Okay, sweetheart, I did not pick you up when I was supposed to.
I yelled at you because you made me mad and such.
You are probably right, anyway, about the wrong I do,
And I am probably wrong again, you will say.
I am sorry. I am sorry. Am I sane?
Why do we argue if we love each other?
Why do we hurt each other verbally
If we care about each other emotionally?
Why don’t we hug each other more like we used to
If we love each other so much at the core?
I am sorry, very sorry if I hurt you. It is true.
You are the last person I want to hurt, make cry.
Okay, we have had more good times than bad.
I don’t want to be with anyone else; I would be sad.
You are everything I need. I thank God I have you.
Everything I want, you are everything indeed.
Is it my heart or is it my head? Why the flare-up?
That confuses my actions. That is hurtful. I dread.
I am sorry, sweetheart. Please forgive me again
As the Good Book says.
Let us take some time off and breathe together calmly.
I FORGIVE YOU
You make fun of me in front of our friends.
You don’t tell me about things in your life.
You don’t call me all day, not even a text message.
Is your heart that cold, that lacking in feeling, that indifferent?
I forgive you. Should I forgive you?
You make me wait an hour while you are on the phone.
You don’t say thanks when I give you cards.
You don’t kiss me as much as you used to.
You don’t hug me as much as you used to.
I forgive you. Should I forgive you?
There is no good-bye kiss when you leave.
You say you don’t like the perfume I get you.
I have only given you a dozen or so.
You don’t like what I like. Why not?
You say I don’t like what you like. Why not?
I forgive you. Should I forgive you?
But I forgive you for now, again, as always.
SWEETHEART
All the cactus plants, baby,
Can’t keep me from you.
The red sun I ignore, maybe.
My tired body is strong for you.
Sweetheart, my wonderful sweetheart,
I will climb mountains and walk miles,
Swim rivers and oceans, elude threats
To see your smile, wide smile,
Your green eyes, mesmerizing.
I cannot be denied. You are tantalizing
Oh corazon, do you love me?
Will you kiss me tonight, hug me tonight
When I get home, tired and hungry, work free?
I don’t like being alone. I feel tight.
Can’t wait to see your face.
Hold me, darling, with all your might.
Don’t let me go right now. Keep the touch.
I love you now. You are a sight.
Let me show you just how much.
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?
You turned and said good-bye.
You waved and got on the plane.
You told me I was not the guy for you.
I guess the years together, sweetheart, were not true.
Sweetheart, what am I gonna do?
Texas will soon take my life away.
