About this ebook

The Equilibrium Text Series focuses on thoughts of the self, by the self and for the self. Applied Feel Theory puts into practice the elements that were discovered in Volume One on Unified Feel Theory. Recognizing that G-D is your consciousness and that You are your awareness, can only lead one to conclude that G-d and You are One.

The advantage that this viewpoint offers cuts through the mystery that societys GOD of outer reality, actually indentures humanity to the whims of others and their leaders. Where can the self go for another opinion? All that society recommends is to seek it from qualified others. Why has no argument been made for seeking answers from within the self; the G-D of inner Reality?

Society is not interested in your inner self, just what your outer self can do for society. In response, you should not look to society for what it can do for you, but to your self for what you can do for you. The U.S. Constitution considers you a sovereign being. These Equilibrium Texts clarify the difference between a sovereign being and you so that you can wisely discern any discrepancy and willingly opt to narrow the gap.

Author

Jerome Jacob Rappoport

Having been born in 1939, at the tail end of the depression and at the outset of WWII, seems to have placed the author at a particular place in time that just might have affected his outlook and reasoning. His sixth-grade teacher referred to him as “Jerry, Jerry quite contrary” and a Junior High teacher, when reacting to his written assignment, remarked, “My, aren’t you being superior to judge!” These unprofessional comments only stiffened his resolve to continue on pursuing his way of looking at things despite their opinions. Things finally came to a head for him in 1970, after successfully completing licenses and certifications as a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor. This alter-ego experience did not resolve his internal uneasiness. So, he started recording his thoughts in journals that eventually led to his four volumes of The Equilibrium Texts some 53 years later. This fourth volume best encapsulates the intent of his endeavor.

    ACQUIRING PERSPECTIVE

    G-D is your consciousness.

    You are your awareness.

    G-D and You are One.

You were born as G-D. You became what you became. The barrier separating your Self from G-D is the notion of things and of no things (physics and metaphysics). These you have manifested by naming, describing, establishing place & time, determining value, positing meaning and issuing commands.

For want of the desire to see or do otherwise, these have become your GOD. This GOD is mighty and great in your eyes and whose very power grows with your acquisition of knowledge. Its enemy, against which it has no defense, is wisdom!

Wisdom begins by uttering – No!

    THE ETERNAL ENIGMA

"The concept of self as an entity

Never before or ever again to be realized,

    Is the imponderable element that

Stands man in awe of his existence."

    SECTION ONE

    PREPARATORY BACKGROUND

Unified Feel Theory observed that amidst the maelstrom of human intellect, the one significant-common element that stood out was feelings. Feelings are comprised of those that are painful and those that are pleasurable. Pain drives one to take action that removes the pain: Pleasure is the response to the taking of such action; plain and simple.

Applied Feel Theory, based upon the above, enables one to acquire an alternate comprehension of the entire process of living. Instead of deferring to the outlooks and mandates of others, this new point of view enables one to seek within for the answers required to become, at best, a sovereign self or, at least, a self capable of acquiring a greater sense of freedom.

When combined, these two concepts offer a Precursory Education for Religious Understanding that removes from religion the familial and cultural baggage that has fomented tumult and misery between humans of all kinds since the whole rigmarole began.

    READ THE PREFACE

Jiddu Krishnamurti: (12 May 1895 – 17 February 1986) was a writer and speaker on philosophical and spiritual issues. He maintained that society is ultimately the product of the interactions of individuals and held that fundamental societal change can emerge only through a freely undertaken radical change in the individual. He constantly stressed the need for a revolution in the psyche of every human being and emphasized that such revolution cannot be brought about by any external entity, be it religious, political, or societal. Denouncing the concept of saviors, spiritual leaders, or any other intermediaries to reality, he urged people to directly discover the underlying causes of the problems facing individuals and society. Such discovery he considered as being within reach of everyone, irrespective of background, ability, or disposition.

    CLARITATEM ANTE CONSENSUM

    Clarity Before Agreement.

Keeping within the confines of this seminal concept, Unified Feel Theory similarly looks to the individual and offers ways one could change his or her outlook in life. It offers the radical elements necessary to keep one’s focus on the Reality that could enable one to see one’s self and society in a vastly different way.

Einstein stated mankind’s dilemma as having a precision of means, and a confusion of ends. In the vernacular it amounts to saying, You’ve got all the tools necessary to get what you want, but you don’t know what you want. In other words, technically advanced but emotionally and spiritually left behind".

Rappoport stated mankind’s dilemma as having a precision of end(s), and a confusion of means. In other words, You know exactly what you want, but you don’t know how or are unwilling to achieve it; or both. You’ve displayed mastery of your outer world by neglecting your inner world: You know what, but not how or why. You’ve become adept at knowing about things (science) but nothing about your true inner being (sapience). Applied Feel Theory – employing Unified Feel Theory – presents the means of acquiring a different perspective that can enable you the ability, but not the willingness, to grasp the significance that Sapience has to offer. G-D gives you the will to survive, all else is up to your self, but the self desires peace.

Most of the thoughts presented in volumes one and two have no direct-immediate application toward your pragmatic everyday challenges and concerns; these were given to you by family and social institutions. The information concerning your inner self should also have been given to you from birth on throughout your academic years but, alas, it was not. Nor is it known if, when and/or where the various social cultures of this world will unravel and be no more; perhaps in your lifetime, perhaps not. Therefore, it could be a mistake on your part to throw up your hands proclaiming that it’s too late for you to physically do anything and that all is lost. It’s true that you may not be able to do anything to save your self or the selves of those around you. Yet, having a clear understanding about what’s going on around you, and why, is generally a talent reserved for the wise. Seek and ye shall find: Ask and ye shall receive. Knowing that answers come when one is ready to receive; well, one can’t get wiser than that!

The truth about reality, where humans are concerned, is that they live uncomfortably ensconced within the bounds of two parallel and simultaneously overlapping realities; a physical reality overlaid and infused by, and with, a metaphysical reality. The physical reality is that they are susceptible to pain and will die within a brief interval of time. The metaphysical reality is mentally created and developed through language that allows temporal escape from the truth of their physical reality. The metaphysical reality is, in fact, a parallel reality, on a different plane and dimension blocking and preventing them from seeing the forest for the trees.

In the physical reality, where trees obscure the view of the rest of the forest, all that is required for clear vision is to be physically uplifted (as in a balloon) in order to look down and see the whole of the forest. In the metaphysical realm, when attempting to lift one’s self above verbally-constructed viewpoints, the outlook is continually obscured by involuntary-intellectual fabrications backfilling the previously occupied perspective. (For example: at 50,000 feet, when looking down upon a town, do you see people or microscopic entities?) People do not like to let go of their metaphysical world view because having to actually see Reality for what it is, when compared to the rosy (psychotic) view, is feared, unfamiliar and devastatingly real. You could say that humans, when confronted by Reality, are literally driven to distraction.

How does a human being start to recapture that which had never before been experienced? In truth it had been experienced at birth when all one had was consciousness (that of a uni-dimensional sentient view of Reality). The answer is: Living in the here and now, focusing on no thing. It starts simply by wanting and willing it, along with the realization that it can never be fully regained once a bi-dimensional view (living in a schizophrenic there and then, here and now) of reality had been acquired. Just recognizing, in truth, that both situations exist simultaneously in the human mind is an initial step toward properly reintegrating one’s self with society or, more preferably and accurately, reintegrating society within one’s self. Integration does not mean becoming one with society. It simply means that when a sovereign individual dwells amongst others, accommodations must be made that minimize sacrificing one’s self to the amorphous whole because of numbers. A first step is by recognizing that one can be in this world, yet not of it!

If one can also accept that he will truly and surely die; that all of one’s efforts seek to avoid that reality (escape and evasion); that one creates an imaginary-diversionary mechanism for coping; and that one is in the world (civilized society) but not of it (when alone with G-D); then one is ready to utilize some tools to help clear up one’s metaphysically challenged view of things. If, and it is a big if where most are concerned, one can achieve a clear vision (clairvoyance) of what is, then what will be accomplished is this, one will still die, but will be better equipped to more graciously accept it with dignity. First, one must be Aware in order to Accept, and, by accepting, one can then Appreciate what is, for what it is.

Remember, in Genesis, G-D described – in personification – I AM THAT I AM, meaning IT IS WHAT IT IS, but we more readily accept the personified or anthropomorphized form. Our only real choice in this world is to accept what is, as it is. To do otherwise only complicates and confounds what would otherwise be a relatively simple and unencumbered existence; a lot of stiff upper lip and hard work to be sure, but definitely within one’s ability to cope until the end.

Consider Reinhold Niebuhr’s prayer: GOD grant the serenity to accept the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things that can and the wisdom to know the difference. It would behoove us, one and all, to erase the story line given us by society, rethink what it’s all about by using the principles and guidelines offered within these Equilibrium Texts, and to correct the obscured vision bestowed and mandated by society.

Continually remind yourself that these Equilibrium Texts are of the self, by the self and for the self. Only after a full recognition and appreciation of the self is achieved, can a meaningful reintegration of society within the self begin to take place. It must be done purposefully and slowly, ever so slowly.

Remember, what you read in these Equilibrium Texts is but the author’s attempt to take responsibility for the vision that he has created. The challenge is for you to acknowledge the vision that you currently hold and then take responsibility for the one you are about to create and develop – should you accept the undertaking.

    PROLOGUE

T he premise that established the foundation of the Unified Feel Theory was that G-N-R-T ( G OD- N ature- R eality- T ruth – all that seems to be outside of you) instilled within every living creature a mindless desire to survive at all cost that far surpassed any other instinct. This characteristic was found to be troubling when human civilization began its long metaphysical upward-outward reach, coupled with this survive at all cost foundational stimulus going along for the ride. Civilizing strives to push, raise, pull and cajole man into rising above and beyond the animal that he is. This posed no end of grief when trying to reconcile his survive at all cost nature with the new-evolving society’s goading that he should become a gentle creature with a higher-nobler self that serves others above self.

To a higher ordered cognizant entity, such as a human, this chronic push-pull inconsistency could not be ignored and played a significant role in the formation and structure of his now tortured approach to life. Clinging to others to enhance his chance of survival in a growing, hostile, and ever changing environment, remained a crucial feature of his humanness. Words, that afforded him a leg up when addressing issues of survival also enabled him to see himself, not only for what he was becoming, but for what he still actually is; and that nasty little piece of knowledge had to be suppressed. The global techniques he employed to accomplish this has been the earmark of human culture and is responsible for the ensuing psychosis, schizophrenia, mania and catatonia he so profusely displays for all with eyes to see and ears to hear.

What is needed now is a premise that will establish the foundation for an Applied Feel Theory upon which we are about to embark.

With built in inadequacies, a fear of death, and asymmetric civilizing processes acting as catalysts that continue to cause him to coagulate and cling to others for succor, solace, salvation and courage that enables him to survive, you’d think would inspire him to become extremely clear and well informed about the supporting organizations and social structures he builds, and why.

If his foundation is built upon inadequacy, fear, and contradiction, then that needs to be recognized first and foremost and not hidden or glossed over. This reality must be a frontlet before his eyes that it might ground and tether him to the inevitability that he’ll have to face it again and again throughout his entire life. Society must not be based upon a pie-in-the-sky cock-and-bull story, no matter how magnificently attired, gorgeously quaffed or exquisitely and subtly scented with words of dubious meaning and intent.

    SO WHAT’S THE REAL STORY?

Unified Feel Theory requires that one initially become totally-self centered and absorbed; once achieved, Applied Feel Theory instructs one to become less so. The less one becomes self absorbed the more susceptible one is to becoming socially absorbed. Eternal vigilance will help maintain equilibrium between these two inescapable extremes.

You were born into this world with a totally self-absorbed nature and it was quickly quashed and conditioned to be expunged from within you. Even when you became socially integrated you were sometimes accused of being self-absorbed still, but this was a misnomer. What they really meant was that you were not displaying the anticipated amount of attention and concern for others in general or for them specifically.

The type of self absorption required to develop your own unified self (Unified Feel Theory) is total and all-encompassing when applied to matters of sapience, your well-being, and the comprehension of the Real world around you. Only a detailed concern for the self, what it is doing, why it is doing it, and if it really benefits the self by doing it, is what is being sought during the various forthcoming stages of your development; definitely not the vagaries of social interaction with all that that entails. Unified Feel Theory is the process for getting to know the self that you actually are, not the self you’ve currently become at society’s hand, so that you might be able to develop the self you hope to become.

Once the totally unified self is known, and its inadequacies assessed and measured, having society reintegrated within that self becomes a necessary evil and another matter entirely. So, extreme caution must be employed to see that the self, once known, is not compromised again as it was early on in your development.

Therefore, an honest self-assessment is crucial in determining just how inadequate you are in order to ascertain to what varying degree society must be leaned upon for assistance throughout the rest of your entire life. The objective, of course, is none-at-all, but we all know better than that – don’t we? An ongoing challenge for Applied Feel Theory is every time you mentally disengage from others, in order to enter your inner sanctum and rejuvenate your self, you’ll have to reengage them at some later point when you reemerge; do so reluctantly and with great care – they are not your friends.

As mentioned before, the thrust of this work is not meant to lay it out step-by-step and do it all for you; that you’ll have to do for your self. All that will be done here is to point out certain key elements that should be sufficient for any one with common sense – and a desire to employ it – to respond and do what needs to be done. Don’t allow society’s zeitgeist (spirit of the time) to become part of your identity. Don’t be an apologist for society! Don’t look to clean up and/or cover up their conduct so as to make it appear more decent and wholesome than it is! Don’t be afraid to censure it with all its foibles! It has had its way with you for your entire life and made of you… what? If you wish to be better than what they’ve made of you, then do so while you still have life and a desire (or will) to at least be free; if not completely liberated (there is a difference). But, you have to determine just what it is that you truly desire, and to do this you’ve got to get away from them from time-to-time. How does one get away and return unnoticed? Aye, thar’s the rub!

I could tell you how I did it. Some of you would try it and succeed. Some of you would fail, and some wouldn’t even give it a go because the examples given of my attainment may not resonate with your life’s experience or objective. I want to give you generics and, in turn, have you develop your very own specifics. Then, and only then, might it have meaning for you and you alone. In order for this to work you have to want it to work. Without your intense desire it is destined to fail, and so it should; even the Bible, when prophesying, alludes to generic signs rather than to specific dates, times and events; these you have to ascertain for your self.

The key issue, as expressed in Volume I of the Equilibrium Texts, is the same here in Volume II: Do you desire truth or peer acceptance; clarity or agreement? This is the fulcrum and it is pivotal to the success of this endeavor. The answer, of course, must be truth and clarity! If not, don’t bother pursuing this matter further because it will all be to no avail. There is no gray, or any shade thereof, where this question is concerned. It is either black or white! Yes or no! On or off! Zero or One! It’s a digital phenomenon, not analog!

There will be other key questions that you’ll confront in life. You will have to make this kind of up-or-down decision many-many times before you take leave of this Earth; or it of you. If truth and clarity is your standard, then making these decisions will be easier than looking to others for direction. It may seem easier – letting others do the thinking for you and blaming them when it fails – but the result will not satisfy nor will it be meaningful over time where you are concerned. That’s why truth is being emphasized over peer acceptance, and clarity over agreement. How can you ever find your self if the compass rests in the palm of some other hand?

Applied Feel Theory is easy to understand but very difficult to apply. Why? Because you are being asked to do it within the confines of society who’ll do all that they can to divert, distract, misdirect and/or entertain you. Society is programmed to react negatively to any viewpoint conceived outside of its own making and consent. It has a very healthy immune system tuned to anything foreign and its mission is to seek and destroy. You, if making any kind of foreign noises or unfamiliar moves, will be attacked and neutralized. Why? Because, you are seen as a foreign entity (dis-ease) and that’s what antibodies do! They (social individuals) function no differently than the way your body’s immune system functions when responding to foreign-invading organisms. If you think otherwise, then you’re deluding your self and will miss the entire thrust of this work. Political correctness is designed to destroy your immune system and make it easier for them to do what they do best – live off the effort of others.

As an example: In the 1960’s when minds were being reprogrammed in colleges and universities across America, the new thoughts were being seen as foreign by the population at large. Antibodies from the old school sought to attack those espousing the alien concepts spewing forth from the new school. But, the old school was being attacked on all fronts. It was a multidimensional-metastasized onslaught and their immune system was unprepared for that with which they were being bombarded. One cannot reason a way out of a position one hasn’t reasoned one’s self into. In this day and age, those beneficiaries of the alien thoughts are now the norm and, acting as antibodies, seek out those remaining with old thoughts. The same body now attacks its former immune system, thus attacking its self somewhat like Lupus and HIV-AIDS.

These characteristics are not relegated just to relationships between an individual and society. They also apply to societies that attempt to maintain a difference from the majority of other societies; once the world becomes small enough for this to have any significance. Here, the question is whether or not a unique society has the right to maintain its difference? As an individual, do you have a right to maintain your difference? In order for the question to have substance, you have to determine what those differences are and are they truly meaningful and yours? Once known, are you willing to standup for your self and your differences? Remember to pull your self away from others long enough to see if you are capable of standing on your own.

Finally, your younger brother (or sister) needs to be educated. If you don’t remember who or what the younger brother is, refer to Volume I, Unified Feel Theory. He/she represents your inner self prior to your outer self acquiring words as the means for understanding the world. Prior to words, those around you conveyed how to govern your self through demonstrable physicality. Put another way, a well placed slap, punch or physical restraint indicated all that you needed to know, but this you’re not allowed to do in return - yet! When those
