    Acknowledgements

I wish to acknowledge the following people for helping with the editing of my book. They are Judy Kop, Marty Parsons, Sylvia Bradford, Gloria Forbes, Latoya Foster, Ransford Foster, and Norma Hendricks, who all played a huge part in the publication of the book.

I’d like to say a special thank you to my husband Ransford. He’s responsible for taking the photographs and helping with the technical aspect of the manuscript.

A heartfelt thanks to you Judy Kop for not only editing, but giving concrete suggestions as the work progressed.

My sincere thanks to you Marty Parsons for proofreading the poems and giving constructive criticism about them.

Many thanks to you Sylvia Bradford and Gloria Forbes for agreeing at a moment’s notice to read and edit the poems.

Latoya, you have no idea how invaluable your help was as you searched the computer for items I most likely would have overlooked.

Norma Hendricks your input was invaluable too. You were responsible for dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s after everyone had finished with the editing.

Last, but by no means least, a sincere thanks to family members, my Brothers and Sisters in Christ, as well as my friends who unwittingly provided the scenarios, about which I write. Without you these writings would have been impossible.

    Dedication

    This book is dedicated to:

My mother Ethel Carr, who didn’t give birth to me, but who loved me wholeheartedly.

To my Mother-in law, Ivy Foster, who showed me how to treat my sons’ wives.

To my Brother in Christ Richard Grenier, who started a Christian Writers’ Workshop in which I participated.

To my husband Ransford Foster, who worked behind the scenes taking photos and helping with the technical aspect of the manuscript.

Those we love don’t go away

They walk beside us every day.

    Unseen, unheard, but always near

Still loved, still missed, and very dear.

    WITH A THANKFUL HEART

    An Emergency Situation

    Standing On His Promises

    Our Heartfelt Thanks to You

Thank God for You, My Friend

    Reminiscing and Giving Thanks

    I’m Counting Our Blessings

    My Thanks to You, Norma

    Father, I Thank You

    An Emergency Situation

Dinner time had almost ended when Tajhai felt ill

Grandma advised his Mom to give him a pill.

Latoya complied. On her way to the table

She leaned against Marlon gasping, To breathe I’m not able!

Please call 911, Latoya said, handing me the phone

Quickly I dialed the number, thankful she hadn’t been alone.

I answered the questions posed as calmly as I could

And waited patiently hoping the paramedics would

Arrive quickly to offer their expertise.

Their quick arrival certainly put us at ease.

After enquiring how she felt, her vital signs were checked

The paramedics felt a trip to the hospital wasn’t needed,

The patient however, had the option the hospital to go

But based on her feelings, eventually decided the trip to forego.

We are grateful Latoya’s reaction to the shrimp wasn’t worse

She has agreed not to partake of that dish again of course

For fear that the situation might recur.

    Standing On His Promises

While waiting to turn, Pastor Peter was hit from behind

What was surprising no injury could he find,

He was, however, able to exit and make inquiry

Of the negligent driver regarding any likely injury.

Although neither cuts nor bruises did he sustain

He was left with an incredible amount of pain.

Pastor Peter was prompted to ask Why the accident?

For he was really curious as to God’s intent.

During Peter’s short Emergency Room stay

He was able to share that Jesus is the Way.

He realized the occurrence was no happenstance

But that he was given a chance

    To glorify his Maker.

Although Peter’s vehicle was completely wrecked

There was no personal injury that needed to be checked.

He has testified to God’s care and protection, and

    Acknowledges that he can stand

On His promises, as he continues to hold

    Onto God’s unchanging Hand.

    Our Heartfelt Thanks to You

    My Dear Doreen,

I must tell you how much you’ve been

A blessing to the Foster family.

Please accept our thanks for helping to supply

The box of groceries when Ron stopped by.

To show His love was the directive given you

We’re really appreciative of what you were led to do

Our prayer is that God will continue to bless you.

Some items I needed to buy

But must cancel due to the supply

    Of the foodstuff you gave

Which will allow me funds to save.

I can attest to His providence and care

No sooner that your box arrived here

Than our Bro. Larry called and offered to share

Some goodies with our grandchildren dear.

So, our heartfelt thanks again, Doreen, to you.

It is my hope that you will continue to do

Whatever it is God calls you to do

There will be a Crown of glory for you.

Thank God for You, My Friend

My friend Judy gave me some advice

    This I’ve taken. I didn’t think twice,

It was to write each problem on paper

Put it in a bottle, and give it to my Maker.

It has made a difference giving my problems to Him

Each time I’ve done so, I’ve felt peace within.

There’s often a solution of how to proceed

He speaks to my heart, and I try my best to yield.

    Thank you my friend

I’m glad God put you in my path.

    Reminiscing and Giving Thanks

July fourth is a special day for me

It evokes a very special memory

    One I’ll never ever forget.

It was on that date that I arrived by jet

To the USA that would be my home yet.

Fire crackers blasted through the air

    Barbecues were being lit everywhere

Thirty- seven years seems so long

To be in a foreign country and know I belong.

I’ve had my ups and I’ve had my downs

But the good Lord has always been around.

He has guided and shown me the way

That’s why I’m saying ‘thanks’ today.

The Lord has blessed me and mine abundantly

He has guided and provided for us constantly,

Doors He has opened for us to walk through

So all praise, and thanks to Him is due

    For
