Cub to Wolf - Mason MacVicar

    Prologue

    Cassandra

Cabal sits on the bench, ink on his fingers as he smiles knowing he has no records for them to find. His clean blue clothing the jail guards had him wear smell of cheep detergent that burned a little at his nose. He is in heavy handcuffs and chains that only get used on the most violent and large detaines.

I heard about the fight in the jail. I would like to thank you for helping that guard. How in the hell did you get the strength to break our restrainment chains? The court baliff asks in a quiet voice, Cabal just giggles. Just adrenaline I guess, I never liked drug users or alcoholics. Cabal then looks to the defence table and gets a look at who is defending him.

A woman at the defence table of the courtroom does not look at him. Long red hair with a clean grey skirted business suit she smells of basic deoderant and sented soap. She looks over the paperwork as the bailif calls out. Case seven three six five, Cabal vr State and Pantrey Grocery Store. Cabal gets up and walks to the defence bench, the red head finally looks up at him.

He can now sence the tention she is showing, she gives a slight lick of her lips and clears her throat. The prosecuter starts talking and she hardly hears a word as her mind only thinks of the defendent. Cabal looks over at her. You better pay attention if your going to get me out of this. She smiles and starts paying attention to the court room.

The defendent was caught on camera leaving the store with several packages of steaks from the butcher section. As the store manager blocked his way he charged and slammed the Manager into the door breaking it. As the prosecutor shows the packages of meat in Cabals hands as he leaves the store from the outside on the court room monitor. The defence stands. Does the prosecutor have video of what happened in the store before this this video? The judge looks to the prosecutor. No the cameras were not funtioning at the time. The defence crosses her arms. Then who is to say he hit the Manager and who is to say he did not pay for them?

The prosecutor calls for the male bag boy to step up. He sits on the witness stand. Yes he just walked by the clerk and proceeded to go to the exit. The manager was already there when a female clerk called out to him. As the manager stepped infront of him he got pushed against the first door breaking the glass and he walked out.

Just then a a female stands in the court room. Your honor that is a lie. I was there as a casher. The judge slammed the gavel on the striker. The defence looks to her and back to the judge. Your Honor May I call her to the stand? The prosecutor looks to the female and back to the judge. I object! I would like to gather information first. The judge looking at him like he is seeing threw his stall tactic waves the female up.

He said he was in a hurry his pets are hungry, he put a hundred dollar bill on the conveyor belt and said keep the change. After the manager rang up the meats at the customer service he kept the amount to himself. I found out from the old lady at the customer service desk the man had fifteen dollars in change coming to him. I went to the police to report this but they turned me away saying its not in there hands now.

After two more hours of trying to prove the assault charges on the manager the judge caved in and dismissed the charges after the same female said the glass was already broken from carts slamming into it without a guard bar.

Cabal then was returned to the jail as the officer he helped smiles as he removes the chains and cuffs thanking him once again. Leaving the jail with his dirty cloths and unkept hair he looks down the road and sees the defence attorney get out of her luxury car. She then walks over and opens a pad of paper and a holds a pen. I would like to start a case of false charges and police lack of… Cabal just leans in and kisses the defence attorney on the lips and then pulls back. My name is Cabal.

She looks at him with complete shock, her legs shake as she tries to stay standing. Cabal looks over her shoulder as a biker gang pulls up next to her car and just wait as they watch him. M-m-my name…is She starts to respond with a heavy studder. Cassandra.

    Tornados Path

The roaring wind dulls down, then the sirens stop, the only sound she hears is the creeking wood of her destroyed house. The old lady lays under her dinning room table is trapped. The dubre of her walls and second floor surrounds the table making a tomb. Her cane is the only object she has a hold onto.

The table starts to creek, the weight of the house will soon collapes in and she will be crushed. She panics to find anything but there is nothing to help her. She can hear her emergency phone ring threw the rubble but she cannot reach it.

She lays down as the table continues to creek, it then snaps in the middle. She cries for help as loud as she can but the dust is almost choking her. She then hears a howl, a long howl right outside. She can hear the scratching and the sniffing.

WE GOT A SURVIVOR! She hears a deep rough voice from outside and sighs a relief but one of the tables legs snap and it starts falling in. Help im under my table it’s going to break! She struggles to say as loud as she can. Yes ma’am we heard it too. A womans voice is now heard.

She can hear parts of her house being moved, lots of growls are heard outside as the house. Another leg snaps and the lower half of the table starts coming to her feet. GET HER OUT NOW! A forceful voice of another man is heard. There is a loud scratching coming close to her head, the fallen wood floor is snapped and pulled away, then she feels something cold touch her hand.

She feels up and its furry and warm now like a snout of a dog. Ma’am whats your name? She hears from the direction the furry thing came from. Linda. She says with a cough. Ok Linda there is one dog in there, another is coming in. Think of them as…what are these dogs on ski slopes? Linda giggles a little. St Bernards. Good to know your head is not hit, yes as big St Bernards they will keep the table up off of you.

Another crawls in and it licks at her face the first growls at the second and they get on either side of her. She feels them growing in size taking up room under the table. The table stops creeking as more is taken off from over them. She can hear the house being removed from over her but no sound of heavy equipment just more growls.

Now linda, my name is Gregory, there will be a lot of dust, we are just over your table. Close your eyes till we say its ok to open them. Ok. She says and closes them and she can feel the dust cover her over as the house is finally cleared and the table moved.

She feels a set of large hands lift her into there arms and she is carried out. She feels herself put down on a air mattress and she goans. Can I open my eyes? Not yet ma’am let me clean your face. A woman says as a wet rage cleans at her eyes and face and she then opens them. She first sees a handsome man. Your safe now. I’m Gregory. She hugs him and starts crying.

Thank you thank you, your a angel! She can hear the laughter of other men around her. She looks around and its a biker gang, mostly men and a few women. She can hear them tear threw the crumbled house. "We got a few of us looking for your dresser so you can have some cloths of your own.

She tries to see but the bikers block her from seeing her house. I want to see it, I want to see my house. She demands Not yet ma’am, relax and count your blessings we made it in time. The woman says. From over them a silhouette of a monster comes up then fades in behind her. I hope we got enough out for you Linda. The man in just sweat shorts holds her draws to her dresser and another in swim shorts had a duffle bag. Found this army bag to hold her stuff. She smiles. My late husbands duffle from when he served. They all giver her a salute and they let her pick what she wants packed into the duffle.

In the distance they all hear another howl. Cabal found another house that has someone trapped lets go! Gregory says and they gather to there bikes. HEY! What is your chapters name? She calls out. Gregory the last to leave looks at her from his bike. The Central Plains Wolf Pack ma’am. Volenteer saviours. He points down her drive and she looks over seeing fire engines and an ambulance coming.

She looks back as Gregory speeds off following the trail of destruction the tornado left in its wake. She gets up still holding her cane and walks over to the house. Both second floor and roof was removed by a bunch of bikers? she says in a whisper as she feels a part of the roof that has four deep tears in a beam. She looks down and she sees the huge paw prints. She then goes around and uses her cane to rub the prints away. Angels not sent by heaven…wolves sent by heaven.

    First born

The sun sets, the smell of meat fill the breeze as the gang settles in the national park.

Cassandra holds the baby in her arms as the camp fire roars and everybody is eating. Her plate is empty as the baby yawns with a little grunt in its sleep. Connor is like his father, always noisy even in his sleep. One of the bikers say and other chuckle as they look at Cabal. He looks up from his plate confused as his attention was on his steak and eggs.

What? Cabal asks and the men roar into laughter. Cassandra looks at them. Hey keep it down or your the ones that going to hold him when he wakes up tonight. They all stop but still smile. One of the females takes Connor so Cassandra can get up. Cabal I want Connor to have a education, not be a roaming barbarian. The men boo her on her words. Cabal looks up at her.

You know its hard to settle being what we are. We would have to take last names, find long term jobs and. One of the bikers speaks up. give up the open roads Cabal waves him down. Cassandra looks at Connor as he is sleeping in one of the girls arms.

Then I will teach him, I still got plenty of money in the bank, I will buy all the books I need and when he gets to seventeen have him take a test at a school. She says with confidence. Cabal thinks about it. And your going to fit all this into that little car of yours?

Cassandra looks at her luxury car. Nope trade it in for a camper and truck. One of the bikers in the rear starts making squeeking noises and one from the front turns. Knock it off. Cabal looks to the back then to Cassandra. Its your car to make that choise. The one in the back makes moaning noises and one of the others in the front turns and hits him and he laughs.

Cassandra just turns and goes to the car and starts cleaning it as the sun finally sets and moaning is heard even further behind the bikers. Cabal gets up and walks into the group of men spreading them out and Gregory smiles as he looks up at Cabal.

Cassandra looks back as the snarls, growls and the body slamming to the ground is heard startling her. DON’T KILL HIM! She shakes her head as one of the bikers runs up. We got a problem, listen to this. He lifts the portable tv showing a news report of a huge wolf dragging a sheep in front of a camera showing its larger then most wolves.

CABAL! Cassandra screams to get Cabal’s attention. and he runs up and she shows him the news and he starts to growl.

    Chapter 1

    Cubs Life

Nobody thinks monsters exist. The bumps in the night are usually a critter, or the house settling. But what if I told you they all exist…with in all of us.

It wasn’t easy growing up on the move. My dad was a biker and my mom followed behind with me in the truck towing a trailer. With no home or school of education my mom taught me as much as she could. We were part of a biker gang called the Central Plains Wolf Pack, but this biker gang that I grew up in wasn’t like the ones in the news. We kept low key and feed ourselves off the land. The only criminal act we were accused of is stealing from farmers and herders.

It was spring when mom started making me write a journal. My name is Connor, we don’t have last names because it makes us easier to be tracked. No social security cards, no health plans, we live to roam the roads of America. My dad is known as Cabal, the leader of twenty bikers. My mom is Casandra, Cassy for short. We keep to the open plains of the Midwest offering muscle to communities and farms that don’t have it.

The jobs can range from tearing down old building that companies want to much money for, to removing other gangs that the towns fear. Even in a gun fight our numbers never fall, in fact I don’t ever see a bruise on anybody let alone a gun wound. My dad’s gang rejects guns, but they have a nice array of knives, axes, and bat like weapons. You can say we perform community service for a price. Only because gas was not free.

By my seventeenth birthday my dad pulled us into this small town outside of Ness city. I don’t ever remember this place but my mom said I was born here. Dad gave the keys to the truck and trailer to a man with a huge walking stick, the man gave my dad two bike keys. Dad gave one key to my mother and the other to me. We all walked to a barn as the trailer is pulled to the other side of the town.

There they were, my eyes wide with excitement to the chrome and black paint. Indian Motorcycles. One was moms she got when I was five, and the other is mine. Bought on my fifth birthday the Indians where rebuilt for my dad. They gave us all homes and food. They even put me in school by my mothers orders. I had to learn a lot because I had one year to learn as much as I can, including how to ride.

My mind filled quickly as I dove into the library. They even had a tutor to get me up to date with curiculums. I practically graduated within months and my mom cheered the loudest because she home schooled me till this point. But they kept the paperwork so it wouldn’t get ruined on the travels.

My lessons on my bike were harder than my studies. I frequently fell off with everybody laughing at me. There cackles only encouraged me to keep trying. Within a month I was racing Gregory the speed demon of the gang. This one race he took a bat out and started swinging it at me. I was having a hard time keeping my balance as I dodged the swings. Close to the end of the race I jumped off my bike at fifty miles per hour in the middle of town and dragged him off his bike grinding his face into the dirt. I had no care for my bike at the time I just wanted to pay him back for trying to hit me in the race.

My father dragged me off him after I got a few hits on him. My dad was laughing at us, my mom showed a little concern. Gregory was taken off to the hospital.
