About this ebook

This poem collection was produced in light of my philosophy of life, my love, and some indication of my varied travel experiences.

My hope is that you, my readers, find at least some of them interesting.

Robert Duddle

Born in Preston in 1931 where I have lived all my life. As the war ended I left school to start an Auto-electrical apprenticeship when I was 14, with strict instructions from my father that I had to go to Night School. With a Higher National Certificate and further study I trained as a Further Education College Lecturer. Membership of The Institution Of Electrical Engineers followed together with a Bachelors Degree with the Open University. During my career as a College Lecturer in Electrical Engineering I had no inclination to read or write poetry whatsoever. However after losing my wife of 56 years, to brain cancer, I composed my very first poem ( Here Still ) some 8 months later at the age of 82.

Age and Experiences - Robert Duddle

    HERE STILL

My dearest you left to that place

    where we’ll surely meet again.

that you are with me still

    to share them anyhow.

    THE WATCH

I have a chased case of gold, all of nine carats.

A porcelain dial with Roman numerals around.

Not a chip or a crack, I really am perfect.

The loveliest watch that ever was found.

To keep friction down, when I am working

I have bearings of rubies, seven all told.

Shiny steel plates hold my gears in place

and my hairspring is beauty to behold.

I was shown on the telly and then sold at auction

bought by someone to put on display

As I lay here I’ve not much to say

I only tell the right time twice every day.

    I DID NOT KNOW

I did not know when first we met

that we’d start a dance of life.

I did not know when first we
