Chapter 1
I love the mornings. So quiet, so peaceful especially during the summer and spring time. There’s a lot of beautiful places in the world but only ONE new york city. I came to work extra early so I can relax with my coffee and just stare out of my office window and look at the beautiful view of manhattan. The only other person in the room with me is my reflection in the window staring back at me but this morning is a little different. I can’t shake the feeling that something evil is coming.
Devon! Devon! slam! I turn to the sound of books slamming on the table. Oh, hey matthew I zoned out for a moment.
Good morning Devon you know how many times I called you, whats on your mind? Matthew lawrence asks.
Nothing.
Thinking about your dad?
Yes, Devon says as he stands and walks towards the opposite side of the room which is surrounded by all windows except for where the elevator is and the bar.
Ya know, you don’t have to come to work I could’ve ran things for a while. Why don’t you go home see your dad before its too late.
No I was with him all weekend, if anything happens my mother will let me know, Devon says as he stands in front of the mirror looking down towards wall street.
Well, somethings bothering you. You and I have been best friends since high school we’re practically brothers, so spit it out. Matthew says.
Do you believe in GOD. asks Devon
I’ve never been a religious person but I guess so, why?
My father was a very deeply religious man but he lost his faith in GOD many years ago and he raised us not to trust him because the devil is the prince of this world.
You say this to say what? Matthew asks.
Devon walks over to his desk and turns on all 6 of his tv monitors and shows Matthew the violence on each station.
What do you see Mat?
A lot of violence
Exactly, this is what gives the devil his strength. so many people give in to the devils temptations, from the terroists, to racism, to murder all by the devil that puts, thoughts, ideas and suggestions in to ones mind to commit evil and something evil is coming and its got me a little scared.
You trying to say the devil is coming? asks matthew
No, I don’t know what it is but its evil, maybe I’m just being silly and paranoid. Forget I said anything, lets get to work.
Mrs.Demaranos there’s nothing more we can do for your husband, its a miracle he’s lasted this long, says the doctor. Just keep him comfortable.
Thank you Doctor You’ve done all you can. Demera pushes a button and an elder butler who is as all tall as kareem abdul jabbar slowly opens the door and with a deep and chilling voice tells the doctor to follow him through the long dimly lit hallway and down the stairs to the massive door. Once outside the doctor gives a sigh of relief.
Demera sits next to her dying husband with long black hair to her shoulders and a thin frame she leans her square shaped face and big round eyes over her husbands lips and demaranos in his weak voice whispers to her. Use the page, only the demon pages can revive me.
Demera recoils in astonishment, the demon pages? Demera says in disbelief but how? I know you’ve been trying to get them from drakes demarion for centuries but what do the pages have to do with your survival?
Get the pages demaranos says in his weakened state read the pages, hurry and in his last breath demaranos falls into a coma.
Demera quickly rushes to hold her husbands hand. I will my love, I will. I promise but how do I get Calista to make the exchange. I have to give her reason, what is most important to a woman, her children, Michael.
Michael enters the mansion of his childhood home where is mother and father still live.
Ma! you upstairs!
Yes, Calista yells back.
Michael runs up the stairs past the two statued gargoyles that stand opposite each other at the foot of the massive staircase.
Hey, Ma Michael says as he enters her room. How’s dad?
The same he’s alive but unresponsive, Calista says.
Tell me again what happened, Michael asks.
All I know is that he came home from work says he wasn’t feeling well, went to bed and he never woke up, that was a week ago.
You sure you don’t want to.
No, Calista says interrupting Michael in mid sentence.
I thought about it son but we can’t take that chance. We’re not normal people son, we have demon blood. If the doctors take his blood and see that it isn’t in existence they’ll ask too many questions and we could be exposed.
What does Devon think? Michael asks.
Same as you, he thinks its worth the risk.
Mom, Michael says in a somber tone as he puts his hand on her shoulder. Calista pats his hand looks up at her son, maybe your right, call the ambulance but before you do I want to check something out first.
What?
Your father is very powerful and because of our demon blood we don’t get sick, I want to go back to the office and look at the surveillance cameras.
You think someone poisoned him?
Maybe and the only person who know who we are is mr demaranos. If I don’t find anything then you call the ambulance.
What if you do find out that daddy has been poisoned or some sort of demonic spell is placed on him? Asks Michael.
Then we’ll do what we have to, to make demaranos heal your father.
Here you go Devon I have a few contracts for you to sign, Matthew says.
How are you and ciara doing? asks Devon.
Good as a matter of fact she’s suppose to meet me here for lunch, why don’t you roll with us?
No thanks 3s a crowd, replies Devon. Just then the phone rings.
Yes.
Theres a sandra madison who would like to see you.
Devon and Matthew look at each other in astonishment.
Sandra! of course send her right up. Devon says.
I haven’t seen sandra in what 5 yrs or so, says matthew.
Devon walks over to the elevator to greet sandra as she gets off. What a surprise sandra I haven’t seen you since we graduated college, how are you?
I’m good, I hope you don’t mind me stopping by unannounced I know how busy you are being ceo of wave corp.
We’ll I’m running things now, my father is sick so I’m filling in till he returns.
Hi sandra its been a long time, matthew says.
Hey Matthew I didn’t know you worked here. sandra says.
yup, as soon as we graduated college.
have a seat, Devon says as he looks at sandras long legs cross over each other as she sits down in 5 inch heels. I know its early in the day but would you like a drink?
Maybe some ice tea if you have it?
coming right up, Devon says.
I see he still has a thing for women in High Heels, sandra whispers to matthew.
Some things never change.
I heard that you two, Devon says.
What brings you by sandra, you were just in the neighborhood? Matthew says.
We’ll Im between jobs and I thought maybe.
Here you go, Devon says as he hands her the ice tea. Say no more, I understand you have your b.s in business administration, correct?
I just recently completed my p.h.d. says sandra.
Oh ok so your more than qualified, Your hired, says Devon.
O.k. thank you, when do I start? asks sandra.
I don’t really handle that, I leave the hiring up to Matthew.
You come in tomorrow 9am sharp and there’s only one qualification, matthew says, have lunch with us today. Devons needs some cheering up.
Oh you do?sandra says. What’s got you so down?
My father is very sick and he may not make it, Devon replies.
I’m sorry to hear that, well, in that case I am kinda hungry.
Excellent, I have some other business to attend to so I’ll let you guys catch up on old times and I’ll be back at 12.
Demera walks outside on her terrace carrying a cup of coffee in one hand and the demon book under her arm and draws 3 pentagrams on
