Breaking the Chains of Domestic Violence

About this ebook
Dr. Linda Munjoma
After going through many years of domestic violence, Dr. Linda Munjoma decided to get up, regain her self-esteem, and move on. I want to encourage someone to get out of that abusive marriage or relationship before it drains you until you sink into a depression. Sometimes, we struggle to get out of an abusive marriage, and we tend to hang in there while we suffer inside. We also try to protect the perpetrator by hiding the whole abuse from our families and friends. For some reason, women ignore the red flags of abuse, hoping that things will get better with time. There is a saying that goes “Once beaten, twice shy.” If you are a victim of domestic violence, get out now because there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Please do not wait until something big happens—you live once, and you deserve better. Our God is a god of second chances; do not wait until the abuse gets the best of you. I made the right decision, and I do not regret it.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TRIGGERS
After experiencing domestic violence as a little girl I have since realised domestic violence has always been an issue in the world and today domestic violence is on the increase. Hardly a day goes by without hearing a domestic violence story. There are many contributing factors to Domestic Violence. Up-bringing and other pressures of life are some of the contributory factors to domestic violence. The pressure of domestic violence originates from being provoked or pushed, by a person or a situation to give up in some way, to give in, and to respond in a way that is neither right nor good.
In a relationship or marriage there are many things that trigger pressure. Some of the things that trigger pressure and force us to react are:-
– The things our partners do
– Things or partners say
– Financial matters
– Work related issues
– Family related issues
– Physical, mental and emotional health of either partner
– Roles and responsibilities within the marriage
– Differing perceptions and expectations
In a relationship or marriage there is nothing wrong when you experience marital pressures. This is all part of life, but
