I decided to write this book because GOD has guided and blessed me with the time to do so. Because of GODS blessing, I was able to retire at the age of 49. Simply putting it, in every major decision in my life, I got down on my knees and asked GOD for guidance. I assure you that he has never let me down. Even before writing this book, I prayed for guidance and GOD told me that He blessed me with the time to write this book to be a witness for Him. I never gave up on God, even when I kept falling down. Every time, I looked up to God, prayed, and got back up. I knew that if I never give up on GOD, then he will never give up on me. With the free time I have, I am voicing my opinion on life and what I have and still is experiencing as a black man in America.

My name is Lynwood Sims. I am the author of Black Men and the Media. I am fifty-two years young and retired-what a blessing! I started working, when I was twelve, with my own grass cutting route on the weekends. Back then, I made $25 a week, which was a lot of money for three yards. Working at a young age allowed me to see how hard work, dedication, and a good temperament pays off. My dad passed away when I was two. Four years later, my mom passed away, as well. My parents had a total of eight children-four girls and four boys. After my mom passed, we had to live with my grandmother. Now mind you, my grandmother already had her own children, in a four bedroom one bath house, when we arrived. The total number of people residing in this house was twenty-one. But before my mother died, she did the most important thing a parent could have done for a child. She introduce us to God, and I have never stop loving him. Fifty-two years later, God is still the most important person in my life. No matter how bad things got in my life (the death of my mom and dad)I knew that they were in heaven. I know in order for me to see them again, I have to always put God first and love all people no matter what ethnic group or religion. I have nothing but love in my heart for the human race because we are all images of God. I am and always have been truly blessed. When you see me, you are looking at the happiest man alive. That’s just how God raised me. After graduating from Chester High School in Chester, South Carolina, I went to college and ran into money problems, so I had to start working. Even though I was on a wrestling scholarship, I still needed money. My time at Barber Scotia College was a blessing. God guided me there for a reason. It was all part of his master plan. Back in 1983, I started working as UPS, one of the best companies in the world. I met some of the most beautiful people of all colors, shapes, and sizes. To make a long story short, I worked at UPS for over thirty years and I retired at forty nine. That happened just as God had promised and it was a blessing. My beautiful wife Stacey and I have been married for twenty-two years, but we’ve been together for almost thirty years. I am wishing for thirty more. We have two children, a beautiful daughter named Ebonee’ and a handsome young son named Lynwood Jr. We adopted my wife’s sister’s kids because of her untimely death. She was in her early forties. All this was part of God’s master plan. She too loved God. We adopted her kids, Tierra and Tyrese, and godson Janeal and they have been a blessing. After seeing what’s been going on in the world, God put it in my heart to write about the state of the black man and why so many of us are dehumanizing ourselves, by calling one another derogatory names and killing each other. It is because some of us still have that slavery mentality. We allow self-hatred to control our mind, body, and souls and don’t know our self worth. Th is is what’s happening in today’s society, and without God and education, it’s going to get worse.

WHY WE AS BLACK MEN CANNOT GET RESPECT FROM THE MEDIA

After thirty years of looking and watching people of all races reacting to black men, get ready for the truth, the whole truth about America media from Hollywood to news station to magazines. Yes, we are the blame for a lot of the negative press, but when it comes to us as black men doing great things in this world, we don’t get the positive press, only the negative. I had to stop watching Fox News as they always seem to put black men down, and only report the negative news that black men do and they always seem to have black people on that show that I believe hate that person they see in the mirror. and When you are on Fox News and winning an argument, they cut you off.

America media is owned by older white men, and those older white men are set in their ways. I noticed that they always seems to put negative stories of black men in the news. Every little thing that a black man do that’s negative it makes the news. All the positive things that black men do, you don’t hear about it. Why is that? I remember going down to Atlanta. We played in a basketball tournament call hoop it up. Out of fourteen teams in our bracket, we won the Hoop It Up tournament, so when we got back home i called the newspaper to get some publicity and let people know what we had accomplished. Well, they never called me back. Right then and there I knew what it was. As black men we did something positive, they only wanted the negative not the positive news about black men, Now if we had gone down to Atlanta and robbed a store, it would have made the front page news.

So at the age of twenty I started looking at the news more and i started to notice all the negative news of black men and not a lot of positive. That’s when I knew just how powerful the media was. It was and still is brainwashing people’s minds, so when you look at the news and see all this negativity about black men and you don’t know any black men, you go by what you see on the news—all the negativity and all the crimes.

What I found out was that the media was dehumanizing us as black men. Now remember the media is owned by white men, Hollywood is owned by white men, magazines like peoples magazine is owned by white people; so dehumanizing us makes them look superior. Not all white people are racist let me make that perfectly clear. Now the rest of the world sees this and think we act like animals, that’s why all the images you see coming out of Africa like starving children with flies on their faces, and they always show the poorest side of Africa.

Let me tell you this. Yes, Africa has poor people but Africa also has rich people beautiful people, but the media will not show you the rich and beautiful side of Africa, just the poor side. Why is that? To brainwash you; that is why people need to read books because reading will take you around the world and places you can only dream about. If you are weak-minded you can easily be brainwashed, so when it comes to black men; the media is brainwashing people’s
