Filled with the Spirit of Jesus: Living for Our Father and His Son
()
About this ebook
Through highs and lows in our ordinary lives, we suffer pain and disappointment. Bad things do happen to good people. We can live with the frustrations, or we can work to overcome them. If we foster the Spirit of Jesus in his courage, compassion, and a lasting spirit of love and forgiveness, we can become happier, more peaceful, and joyful people every day.

In my own worried prayer recently, in the midst of my stewing that my fiancé might have skin cancer, the thought ran through my mind, “When have I let you down?” I stopped, dumbfounded. I had to shake my head and smile in shame. How totally true this statement was. When has God let me down? In all of the prayers and pleadings of my heart, when has He left me to founder and be in need without help coming? Never. For forty-five years, God has provided jobs, energy, health, and wisdom for me to find opportunity and means to see to my needs. When has God let me down? Never. And, by the way, the cancer test came back negative. (Thank you, Father). The powerful gifts of happiness, physical and spiritual blessings, and eternal life are ours because He loves us so very, very much!

INTRODUCTION
Life in America today is often filled with worry and uncertainty. When the economy is unstable and unemployment is high, many of us wonder with fear what tomorrow will bring. Hopefully, when times of trouble or worry come, we know to turn to our loving heavenly Father for help and comfort. Even in troubled times, God’s blessings should be evident in our lives. We have wholesome, abundant food, comfortable homes, and conveniences galore. Jobs can usually be found and, even in want, things turn out to be blessed in the end. These blessings are evidence of God’s gifts for us each day. Living for our Father and our Lord means looking to them in times of joy or need and recognizing their love and power when we receive their bountiful gifts in our lives.

Christians Filled with the Spirit
THE CHRISTIAN FILLED with the true Spirit of our Lord would be a magnetic person indeed. Jesus never begged anyone to follow him. He had little physical attractiveness that would draw people to him, but his magnetic spirit exuded power that made all who saw him want to follow. He knew that all who would listen to him would do so because of their wise openness to the Holy Spirit, which would move them to understand and come to live within them. The Christian who lives in the Spirit listens to the true spirit of love and generosity.
Living for our Father and for our Lord should mean living in such a way as to exemplify their qualities in spirit and to show others how reliance upon God will lend their lives a peace and a happiness that non-Christians will never know. Christians should be filled with a spiritual zeal that is attractive to others. We should exude confidence that all things necessary to our well-being will be provided by our Father so that worry and stress should not be a controlling part of our lives. Our precious Savior died and rose for each of us, and the knowledge of this true, personal miracle should give us such joy and peace that problems we encounter in this life should pale in comparison to the security that we have in our salvation. The greatest, most powerful beings in the entire universe, the creators of all things and beings, love you personally and want to spend eternity in heaven there with you to share it!
Why don’t we have all of the happiness in the world at this news? Because we have a difficult time realizing that our Father and our Savior actually do know us, love us, and care for us on a daily basis. Our
