About this ebook

This little book of poems, praises, prayers, and speeches has been gleaned from my personal experience with God through the reading of his Divine Word. It is my prayer, however, that all who read this little book may be encouraged to explore and read the Holy Book (Bible).

The Bible is like sweetness from the honey comb, which is nourishment for the sin-sick soul. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth. Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way (Psalm 119: 103104).

Celia C. Tillman

Mrs. Tillman has one daughter, one goddaughter, two sons, and seven grandchildren. She has resided in Georgia all of her life. She attended Morris Brown College, obtaining a bachelor of art degree in business education, and later attended Atlanta University. Mrs. Tillman has worked with the Internal Revenue Service as a stenographer, and with hands-on experience with controlling exempt applications or denial of exemption, and screen initial file to determination. Maintain suspense file to follow-up information received in thirty days of initial screening, and the filing of Internal Revenue manuals. Mrs. Tillman has taught in the Atlanta Public School System for twenty years. In the twenty years of teaching, however, she has tried to instill within her students to have respect for self, and by doing this, they will have more compassion for others. She also tried to stress strongly the importance of a good education. Mrs. Tillman many times invited coworkers and students to attend the Church of Christ. However, from this effort, one student obeyed the gospel (to God be the glory). Mrs. Tillman’s spiritual life has been the most rewarding. She has been a Christian for fifty-four years, obeying the gospel when she was only eighteen years of age. She has taught Sunday school, ladies’ Bible classes, and has spoken at Ladies’ Day programs. She is still active in the service of the Lord, mentoring to the younger women and taking care of the flowers at the church where she attends (Locust Grove Congregation).

    DEDICATION

To God, who is the Creator of heaven and Earth, I give all the glory, honor, and praise. I thank him for sparing my life, for patience, guidance; for his undying love toward me for sending his Son, Jesus Christ, that I may benefit from his grace. I also thank God for allowing me to see him in living color through the written word; for knowledge, wisdom; to be able to write and express my love for him through poetry, praises, prayers, and speeches. It is to you, God, that I am able to dedicate this little book, to the memories of those past and present.

With love and affection, I dedicate this little book, in loving memory of my mother, Octavia Green Lyons, AKA Bunch, who taught her children to be kind and courteous to all men. She also taught all of her children to respect and to have love, one for the other, regardless of the circumstances. My mother was a people person. She knew how to capture the heart of an individual, and she didn’t have to know you to start up a conversation. Bunch, as she was so lovingly called, knew how to bring a smile to the faces of her audience. She was also a lover of flowers, which could be seen in her own flower garden. There were flowers of every hue (1988).

To my father, James Harris, who was a man of integrity, wisdom,

knowledge, and also a brother in Christ (1970).

To my aunt Claudia, of whom I have fond memories. She was such a kind and generous woman. She was always giving of herself to others, especially always lending a helping hand to my mother in the rearing of me and my siblings (1956).

To my sister, Rebecca Green, who was a sister in Christ, I thank you

for having the confidence in me to share your inner thoughts (1983).

In memory of all my brothers on my mother’s side: Walter Jr. (1994); Silas, a brother in Christ (1979); Alfred Henry (2001); David (1997); and Jerry (2006). Father’s side: Willie James (1980); Alfonso; (1981), Leon, a brother in Christ (1987); George (1998); Ella Bell (2004).

To my sister, Gwendolyn Williams, who was also a sister in Christ, I wish to thank you for the memories we shared, as siblings (Dec. 2014).

To my aunt Essie Green Bowens Willis, who lived to be ninety-three years of age, thank you for your wisdom, and to God be the glory (June 2014).

To all my sisters, much love and affection: Sallie Allen, Kay Smith, Patricia Poole, Beverly Walker, and Shirley Carnes.

To my aunts: Elnora Green Spear, and Edna Green Dinkins, the only survivors of the original Green family, thank you for being that pillar of strength.

To you, my husband, Levoe Tillman, I want to thank you for your service to the Lord and working in his kingdom; thanking God to let us see forty-five years of marriage on July 28, 2015.

To my children: Pamela, Yahone, (Nakita), Maltheus, (Rhatia), and to my goddaughter, Rachel, (John), Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

To my grandchildren, with all my love: Ashlee, Jabari, Christian, Dominique, Victoria, Tyler, and Laila, I pray that all of you mature to be godly young men and women.

To my church family at the Grove, who were always a source of encouragement, Barry May, minister and evangelist, who preaches the gospel of Christ with conviction, boldness, and without compromising. He and his wife, Lisa May, would say, You need to finish your book, so that we can read it.

To Mrs. Ermer Matthews, of the Church of Christ at Bouldercrest, who is my mother in the gospel, she was blessed to reach ninety-one years of age, March 9, 2016. I thank you for your wisdom and listening ear.

To all of you who call me Mom and Grandma, I am truly grateful.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I am truly grateful to all of you, first to my longtime friend and coworker, Joyce S. Gamble, who inspired me, students, and the entire staff of the South Atlanta High School, to write and express our love for poetry. We all had a part in contributing to the magazine, Versified Virtuosity, of which Mrs. Gamble was the sponsor and editor. I truly thank you for believing in me to never give up, follow my dreams, and giving me constructive criticism. You saw the fire in all of us to be heard, especially our students, of whom we were most concerned, because they were our future.

My sincere gratitude goes out to those who poured out your talent and expertise in the completion of this little book, Honeycomb of Praises: Foster Fears, photographer and designer of the front and back cover, and Hakeali, Halani, and Sabiyah Broderick, Trinity Harris, Frederick Hines, Zori Perkins, and Katlin Pullin (illustrators). I would like to say that without the collective efforts of all, portions of this book would not have been successfully completed.

    To God be the glory.
