About this ebook

Its a contextually relevant and insightful book of profound, scholastic, and literary standard ever written on the subject of deliverance from an African perspective. It deals with the origins of Africans genealogically, how the devil manipulated ancient African customs to enslave them in heathenistic practices, and why Africa is located in the intensive care unit of the world economy surviving on drips and oxygen. A must-read for every African indeed!

The weaknesses in the deliverance service, which is a mandate from the Master Himself, are that the books and teachings on it need local relevance and sourcing as every place has its unique deliverance needs. This book seeks to address this need, moving deliverance from a power-encounter to a truth encounter approach, because without knowing the truth about sources and grounding for our spiritual problems, our attempts at deliverance yield only temporary relief. This book is contextually relevant and studying from it will go a long way in our process of sanctification and sustainable deliverance, for you shall know the truth, and the truth (said in the imperative shall set you free) -- Dr Alex Phaashe Magagane

What an excellent material this! It is of profound, scholastic and literary standard. Thanks for your contribution to the body of Christ -- Pastor K.S. Leeka

Truly Apostle P.L. Ditshego is a luminary scholar. This is not a second hand revelation, but fresh manna that bring total deliverance to the body of Christ- Apostle Lazarus Mphahlele

    Preface

Many imageries of the church are plainly revealed in the scriptures. The Church (for instance) is described as: a city, the body, the bride, a family, a temple, and an army. In 1 Timothy 6:12, the Apostle Paul commands Timothy, Fight a good fight of faith Obviously, you cannot fight where there are no enemies. As a matter of fact, the enemies of our faith are: the flesh, the world, and the devil. Therefore, to heed the command to contend for the faith that has been delivered to us is to fight and exercise dominion over the three abovementioned enemies. The third enemy -- the devil and his cohorts -- is what we are chiefly concerned about in this book.

The study of Satan and demonology has been taken to two extremes. On one hand, Satan's power has (over the years) either been glorified or underestimated. Many Christians (for instance) pay so much attention in their Christian calling to demon casting as though the whole Bible is demon-centred. On the other hand we have many believers who have underestimated Satan's power to an extent that they have neglected their role as warriors of the God's Kingdom. The prevalence of these two extremes of view with regard to Satan and demonology unquestionably needs a sound doctrinal balance. To this end was this book written!

While addressing a group of university Christian students, the late Pastor Mosupi once made a remarkable statement that there are two mistakes that a fighter can make in a fighting ring. He can either underestimate his opponent or overestimate him. If he gets into the fighting ring with an underestimated view of his opponent, then he will not be beaten by his opponent, but by his cocky attitude. And because of this attitude, he will not put much effort in physical exercises and training. Consequently, he will lose the fight. Likewise, if he gets into a fighting ring with an overestimated view of his opponent, then he will also not be beaten by him, but by his fears. The truth of the matter is that Satan is a real personality who has real powers.

The Apostle John says, Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Notice the degree of comparison in this text. The implication here is: Satan is neither small nor the greatest. This verse alludes to us the fact that in no way can Satan be underestimated or overestimated. As a matter of fact, there is nothing fake about Satan and his demons. Not only is he real, but he also endows his servants with real powers. The Apostle Paul calls him the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4), which means that his power is above that of an average man.

Hence, the Apostle James commands, Submit yourself therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7). Notice that before you resist the devil, you must first submit to God. The implication is simple: you cannot beat the devil by your own power or strength! A good military strategy therefore is to know your opponent so that you can rightly position yourself, lest you become ignorant of his devices or careless and he takes advantage of it. Hence, the Word commands that we should not be ignorant of Satan's evil devices (2 Corinthians 2:11). Come and journey with me therefore, in an insightful study that is about to expose the nature of the warfare we are involved in; the origin, nature, purpose, and strategy of the enemy of our souls; his servants and; our role and weapons of our warfare as the army of the Lord.

    Learning Objective

After studying this section, students of God's Word should be able to:

    - Gain a comprehensive understanding of the broad subject of deliverance and;

    - Know why and how the church should be involved in spiritual warfare.

    Key Text: Luke 4:18-20

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord

    The Need for Foundational Deliverance

The late world-renowned preacher and author (Dr Victor) was once approached by a student after delivering his public speech in a particular university. The student happened to be a young man who asked him, Why is it that Africans are on the lowest ebb of the social strata of any community you can think of? Why is it that Africans are the most disadvantaged, poorest, and worst sufferers in the Caribbean, South America, Australia, and even in their own continent? The young man then concluded, I hate to be an African!"

These questions bothered the man of God and really got him thinking. As he pondered on these thought-provoking questions, he could not help asking himself: Why is living in Africa like living in a volcano where everything just seems to blow up? Why is it that when Africans take over institutions, everything -- roads, transport, telephone systems, electricity, etc -- seems to deteriorate? Why is unemployment (particularly in Africa) increasing at an alarming rate, squatter camps spreading like veld fire, crime tripling and most of our people qualifying for poverty grants? Why have our political leaders made us global and social misfits? Why is Africa placed in the intensive care unit of the world economy surviving on drips and oxygen?

May I hasten to argue defensively that our failure to breakthrough and to compete on an equal footing with other developing countries does not owe to lack of minerals and human resources. Africa has everything that the world needs to see -- lovely rivers, spectacular mountain ranges (including the high Kilimanjaro), beautiful game reserves having the best wilds with almost all animals, the ever amazing Victoria Falls after which Cecil John Rhodes' wife is named, etc. Africa is generally regarded as the Reserve Bank of the world; for we are enriched with all if not almost all natural resources one can think of, e.g. gold, diamond, copper, platinum, chrome, manganese, vanadium, cobalt, phosphate, uranium, iron, tin and natural gas, etc.

Africa's problem is not the shortage of intellectuals either; it has many of them. Actually the skills of most of our intellectuals are being utilized in many developed countries. The first university was established in Africa, in Tombouctou. In fact, the very art of writing itself, hieroglyphics, started in Egypt and became the hallmark of Africans as they migrated downwards. The Bible is careful to note that Moses was an intellectual in that he was learned in all the learning of Egypt. Geometry and medicine were first practiced in ancient Egypt. As a matter of fact, history proves that civilization began in Africa.

Thus, Africa was once advanced in the areas of agriculture - evident in the historical batter trade for agricultural products by the Mizramites with the Cushites for gold; astronomy - born from the Sumerian empire whose utmost interest was the study of cosmos; civil engineering - evident in the construction of the pyramids; medical science - depended upon for human dissection and for mummifying bodies; mining - of gold and other minerals documented to be a well-known expertise by the Sudanese, Ethiopians, and Somalians; and trading -- evident in the biblical account of King Solomon's horse breeding and trading, etc -- that even people who later conquered it wanted to be called the Pharaoh's! (including the famous Napoleon). Thus, Africa was once a great kingdom, but it's no more. History and scriptural record prove Africa to be,

"a nation tall and smooth of skin ...a people terrible from their beginning onwards, a nation powerful and treading down, whose land the rivers divide (Isaiah 20:2; NKJV).

This prophecy by the prophet Isaiah was given around the year 711 BC when Africa was a strong kingdom. But, then the question is, why is God prophetically describing it as a people terrible from the beginning and why is it in the condition it is now?

As I considered all these, I was reminded of a verse in the book of Psalms 11:3 which states, If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Everyone and everything has a foundation. Your foundation speaks of your source, origin, parentage or ancestral background. Likewise, every structure, family, tribe and nation has a foundation. Foundation speaks of the fundamental part of a society or a fabric that holds that society together. The question then is, how does it look like and on what kind of ground is it built? -- rocky, sandy, thorny; holy or unholy; demonic or Christian; idolatrous or godly? You see, when you see leaders concerned about preserving their ego than serving the people, it is a sign that the foundations have collapsed. When you see fathers making sexual advances toward their own daughters it's a sign that foundations have collapsed and; when you see divorces multiplying everyday even in church it's a sign that the foundations have collapsed.

When we study the Bible in Hebrews 11:3 we learn,

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear

What we learn here is that the physical material world in which we live was
