    CHAPTER 1

In an average suburb just like any other, there was a woman named Marie with two children, a boy and a girl. She was happily married to a man called Frank. The family lived in a nice little house on the hill, no different to any other family, not yet anyway. Frank was a gardener and Marie was a kitchen hand in the Downtown Franchise. The wages weren’t huge but we made do with what we had.

Our home was the size of a shoebox, every morning I would drop off the kids at school. Catherine went to Oklahoma Elementary school and Bobby went to Oklahoma High School. After I dropped the children of, Frank would go to work, then I would go down to the Park and feed the swans on my days off.

I only work on a Monday to Wednesday, so I have a lot of free time on my hands, maybe a bit too much, not like Frank who works five days a week. After I fed the swans, I went back home to clean up the house and before I knew it, it was time to pick up the kids from school.

Hi Catherine how was your day, Hi mum, boring I bet you had a better day than I did. Actually, I did have a good day, how about I treat you to a nice afternoon tea out after I pick Bobby up? That sounds great replied Catherine. So we picked Bobby up and we had a lovely afternoon tea out at the Smith’s Hill Beach Café.

As I was waiting for our meal to come out, I began reading the Real Estate Magazine. I can see so many lovely houses I thought to myself, but they seem to be all out of our price range. Oh no wait a minute, look at this one, a five bedroom, two bathroom house that’s in our price range. Wait a minute, I thought to myself, why is this particular house so much cheaper than the rest, I must look at it first thing tomorrow. I just have too, this looks like my dream home. The children and I finished off our lovely afternoon tea out at Smith’s Hill and we headed home.

As I was walking through the door of my shoebox of a house, I was thinking that if I tell Frank about going to look at a house tomorrow he might stop me from going. I’m saying that because Frank is funny about things like that. I know if I tell him he won’t want me to look at it for years and I have been trying to find the right place for Frank the kids and myself for a while now and I think this might be the house. I am going to look at this house, I bet it is the right one for us.

So morning came. Last night I was tossing and turning hoping that our dream house was still for sale and it was. I pulled into the driveway and there was the Real Estate Agent. The house looked just like I imagined it. It was perfect in every way. It was an old house, but a big house, so I got out of the car and as I was walking towards the Agent she had a big smile on her face, so I smiled back.

I said hello and she said hello back. I said is the house still available?, she said yes. I was so glad the house was not sold yet. She took me inside and it was like being in some kind of old Castle. The walls were stone and wood and the windows were stained glass. The cupboards were made out of cedar. It was like a mini castle.

Imagine a two story house in stone with stained glass windows. It was my dream home but why was it up on the market for such a good price? I asked the Agent and she said the owners were eager to move on. I will think about it, I said to the Agent and I will have to ask my husband Frank. So I walked off. As I was walking off the Agent said to me, you better hurry up as it’s not going to be on the market much longer. I said why? and she said, I’ve already had a few offers. So I went behind Franks back and I said alright I’ll buy it,
