Introduction
This book is dedicated to and inspired by our precious daughters, Candice and Charisse Ann for their thoughtful prayers, humor, love for music and animals, great sense of fun, their caring support during hard times, and most importantly, for building great memories with family. We are grateful to our dear granddaughter, Ceci Elaine, for her passion toward music and arts, her devotion to family, and her beloved pets.
We are thankful to my husband Conrad for his continued support, to my parents, Irene and Leoncio Aton, who gave us our spiritual foundation, Grandpa Nicomedes, a great story teller, and Grandpa Tranquilino for his big heart and love of people. We are also grateful for the assistance given to us by Kauro Nashiro and Sai Raj Kappari(our USC Student Volunteers specializing in Gerontology) Julie Turner (Medical Secretary) with regards text formatting and picture imaging applications for this manuscript.
Chapter 1
Doubtless the Confident Baby Turtle
Doubtless at Home
One beautiful cool morning in the misty air of the woods is a baby turtle named Doubtless, trying her first steps to walk down a pathway lined with white rocks and wild flowers. Where is everybody? Maybe I can look for George, my dear friend. He will show me where everyone is.
So Doubtless, as her sister calls her, continued on to find George, the teen hare, who loves to hop down the riverside digging for wild carrots.
Looking for his friend George
Soon enough she found bed of carrot leaves along the Riverside. Right behind the huge tree one can hear crunchy noises and lo and behold she finds George digging hard and splashing muddy soil all around.
Hi! George, what are you doing?
Hi, Doubtless. I am just getting ready for a picnic this afternoon. I’m gathering enough for all our buddies. Are you coming with us?
I don’t know if my folks will let me.
The Ride Back Home
I could not find my family. I was asleep a long time and every one was gone,
Doubtless said.
Your sister is in school and your mom is probably preparing your lunch. Your dad’s at work. Did you look at the backyard?
