Carole Volavka
Hi, my name is Carole Ann Volavka. I’ll tell you a little about myself and how I came to write this story. I have had a lifelong passion to be a writer. My earliest memory was when I was about eight. I tried to write a short story, or I should say, I did write a story about a dog that thought he was a cat, but no one could read it because I was a terrible speller. My sister made fun of me, so I gave up trying. But I didn’t give up my dream. I kept writing, but I didn’t show them to anyone-that is, not until I was a junior in high school, and my English teacher gave a writing assignment. It was to write a short story about anything we wanted. So I took it to heart, and I wrote, and the more I wrote, the more I wanted to write. The teacher could read it and understand it. I received an A and a note that read, “Carole, you have a tallent and an imagination. Keep up the good work.” I still have that story. After I married and had a family, I would tell my children stories that were in my head. My son said I should write them down, but I never did, not until my son passed away in 2005, and I started writing just to keep my sanity. One thing lead to another, and Raven the Wild Horse was born, and so were two others about a super grasshopper. I was born in California but moved to Idaho when I was four. I have two older brothers and an older sister. I always have animals around me my whole life-some domestic and not so domestic: dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, rabbits, a deer, and a badger. Once I was grown, I still had animals-no deer and badger, but cow and horses. I was a foster parent for eighteen years. I would come to adopt two of my foster boys. I also adopted a baby girl. I was legal guardian to two of my nephews. My house is always full. I now live in the country in the state of Washington, and yes, I still have animals.

Introduction
Raven was born the only filly in the line of three other colts. The colts didn’t’ have the ability or good judgment to become Future leaders of the herd. That’s when Sara and Buck the present leaders made a decision to have one more offspring and they hoped this one could and would want to be leader after Sara and Buck were no longer able Raven showed her love and patience for the others right from the Start. Her bravery and her durability and her strength in a time of great pressure showed she had great power to withstand whatever came her way. Her loving, caring and gentle manner and the fact she was generous and kind won the hearts of the herd as a whole.
At a time of drought, hunger, fire, death and server winter weather, and Indian wars, and maybe the calvery. She was still able to keep the herd together. Even With the three brothers Jet, Jon, and Gunner killing all the Ranchers stallions and taking the mares. This put the entire wild Horse herd in the valley in deep danger.
The devastating havoc, the damage and terror and the fact they were trying to kill Raven and their parents, she still kept the herd together.
All of this just made her strong willed and determined to fulfill her duty.
I hope you enjoy the story, this is a fictional story. There is no such wild herd and no great leader named Raven.

THE BIRTH
Once upon a time in the valley of the sun on or about 1791 a herd of wild horses lived very quietly and peaceful in the valley that has a nice stream flowing through it. They were not bothering anyone or anything; for the most part they were worry free, just a little spat between them every now and then. The very happy leaders of the herd were Sara and Buck. They were about to have a fold any day now. The whole herd was anticipating the arrival because, colt or filly, its destiny was to become the new leader when Sara and Buck could longer
