When I first fell into the world of Little Women I was 12, landing in their American home with a thud – watching these March sisters run around their house in their nightdresses, scorching each other’s hair, sharing each other’s dresses, and ganging up on the boy next door, Laurie.

I felt I was hiding behind their sofa, convivially spying on them, and very quickly, my favourite sister was everyone’s favourite sister: Jo.
