When did you first encounter horses?

I've always had a natural affinity with animals and I grew up on a hill farm with my aunt where there were two working Shire horses, Violet and Duchess. Duchess was a little wicked, and if she was about to be caught in the field she would wait until you were 2ft away before turning tail, kicking up her heels and running away. She was also prone to giving the odd nip, and I had a nasty bite from her once. Violet
