When I started my professional career I was told I was tenacious. I had to look up the definition. Determined or stubborn: tending to stick firmly to any decision, plan or opinion without changing or doubting it. The last few years I have been anything but tenacious. I tried one thing, if it didnt work, I immediately changed course and looked for another viable option. My heart goes out to parents who may find themselves in a similar situation. I had the background. I had resources. More than that, I had an undeniable fear. Fear that my kids would be lost in a world that didnt understand, nor WANTED to understand. Not everyone can function in our educational infrastructure and how dare anyone pass judgment and say they are inferior in any way. My lesson: to not be afraid of the mandates of this society. This is the true story of a mom, protecting her children, and learning that their true purpose is to not only protect me, but everything else as well. I am again tenacious; for all that is Indigo.

FOREWORD

The first time I heard the term Indigo was maybe three years ago. To be quite honest, I didn’t give it much thought. My friend, Arnette, had visited with a spiritual healer and had learned that both of her kids were Indigo. In my world, where my wife and I do not have children, it seemed a bit kooky and new age and since it was not something that I had to personally deal with on a regular basis, it was pretty much a situation of out of sight out of mind.

By training I am a business man. For over 20 years I have been involved in business-to-business sales in the electronics, construction, healthcare, and media industries. I have consulted companies on how to become more efficient and help them to improve their revenue by aligning their sales and marketing teams. Recently, I was asked to join a small marketing and branding company to help them prepare to grow and to expose them to larger enterprise level clients.

Do I fit the mold of someone that should be writing the forward to a book about Indigo Souls? At first glance absolutely not. However, over the past few years, people, events, and what at the time seemed like complete coincidences have presented themselves to me that have led me to an awakening that I could not fathom just a few short years ago. I have become conscious of concepts and tools to help me deal with life in a more connected way. I want to make sure that I don’t confuse this with a religious awakening in the traditional sense. I have respect for religion, all religion, but I do not feel that one religion is any more important or relevant than any other. What has happened to me personally has led me to believe that all energy, be it people, or animals, or the environment are connected in a vast oneness. I know, that does sound pretty kooky and new age for a traditional guy, right?

I’ve been leading what you could call an ordinary life; concerned mainly with the ups and downs of balancing a stressful work life and trying to figure out how to have an even better home life with my wife. Living in Austin, there are ample opportunities to expose oneself to any number of non-western healing modalities. My first exposure to anything other than a standard doctor visit was with a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, an acupuncturist. My brother-in-law who is a highly respected businessman and who prior to his retirement, was a division president for a very well known multi-billion dollar company told me how he was able to get back to playing pain free golf after a few visits. I had recently had a rather embarrassing fall out of a hammock (it’s okay for you to laugh at this point), and had basically cracked my tailbone. I decided to give it a try. This holistic healer was able to immediately relieve the pain by restoring natural energy flow through the area. Had I seen a regular doctor, I am sure I would have been sent home with a painkiller and little more. Even more interesting to me than the benefit received from acupuncture was the talk about the Angels that were there with me in the room. Okay, now we were really getting into that weird hippy area. She also was quite aware and well-versed on what it meant to be Indigo. This meeting proved to be a pivotal point in my life and much learning has taken place since that time. Again, you have to realize that this was completely new and different from the standard learning I had received in school and business.
