    Misty - Jessie Low Gan

    PART #1

    CHAPTER 1

    The Super Soldier

I woke up to the sound of yelling.

Alright, you dandelions, get up NOW!!! Meet me at the Hob in 5 minutes.

Then Master Dalia strode out of the room, her dark tail cloak swishing behind her. While everyone scrambled out of bed, I slowly sat up and scoffed.

They look like chickens that have seen the light of the day for the first time, I thought.

I started making my way towards the bathroom to brush my teeth and to get dressed. Everyone knew that I am the boss around here. All of us have our respective particular power. However, Special Elusia made me extra-special. I can run for up to 25 miles without stopping. I can jump up to five feet in the air. My skin is as tough as a shark’s. I can hold my breath for ten minutes straight, along with breathing underwater. I have perfect memory; long term and short. My senses are twice more acute than anyone else’s. My reflexes are lightning fast. I have incredible strength, though I can’t exceed 110 pounds. In addition, I am already naturally smart. And no toxin can fully kill me. To top it off, I have my extremely strong power; the Hydrinagua, level 5.

Hey Misty, do you have extra gauze wraps? I’m afraid that Master Dalia will make us duel each other again. Adeen called from the other side of the room.

Yeah, I do. I replied, throwing a perfect toss to her, flinging my dark hazel hair over my shoulder. I started to braid it and tie it in a bun.

Adeen was my compound partner. We went everywhere together and knew everything about each other. She had jet black hair and light skin, with incredible alternating orange-green eyes.

I dressed in a black tank top and olive green cargo pants and ran towards the Hob; the heart of Special Elusia.

The big and spacious Hob was where all the hubbub and whatnot took place. All the ceremonies, announcements, competitions, and meetings happened there. It was actually quite a tedious and tiring life that I led, but I made the best of it.

Many people wondered how old I am, well, I am currently fifteen, and I started training at eight. I have blue sea green eyes and olive skin. I have always been a bit taller than Adeen and shorter than Burnett.

Burnett, our good friend, came striding over, a confident smile over his freckled face, and as he approached us, he showed off his powers. Prior to any competition, we always warmed up in the field, right outside the entrance of the Hob in the meadowy ground that spread all over Special Elusia. He actually came up with something creative this time.

With his hands slowly rising upwards, he built a green hut. Vines and forest trunks twisted upwards and entangled as they ended in a roof of flowering hydrangeas. Greens and pinks and purples mixed until they were one. Bamboo shoots appeared around the perimeter. To finish it off, weeds and vines circled round and round and Burnett made several cute little blooms around the edges. It was the most ridiculous, colorful, and green thing for miles around. We clapped in mock applause, and Adeen whistled. Burnett flashed his smile, and his emerald green and golden eyes twinkled. Now this was new and exciting.

    Practice much? I called.

You know it He waved for Adeen to go.

Ready? she looked anxious to start.

We nodded as we watched her do her magic. Columns of fire sprang up, and flared at the top. A dome of burning embers formed with flames licking the bases where it toughed the columns. A gate of fire exploded up around the whole temple. Her face was tight with concentration, and her lips pressed together. She had somehow practiced enough to manipulate Burnett’s flower décor and made fire lilies. Fiery dogs and other fierce wolf-like animals appeared, and growled and howled. The display looked so realistic; it was as if Adeen just gave life to a bunch of flames. Burnett and I applauded her, as she took a bow. Your turn, Misty. Adeen motioned for me to start.

Burnett let out hoots of encouragement as I gathered the water I needed for my masterpiece.

I imagined a smooth, terrifying, powerful figure in my mind, as I squeezed the last of the moisture I could find. Unlike Adeen and Burnett, I needed to gather my materials from the air and the ground, whereas Adeen could just heat the air and make fuel subconsciously, and Burnett could summon seeds to grow under his persuasion. I had to physically extract water from the air around me. I had my eyes closed, but I could swear I heard a small extra water reservoir burst as I willed the water to come to me. Honestly, I thought my face looked even more intense than Adeen’s. A drop of sweat trickled down my back, which got swept up in the giant wave I was conjuring.

The wave morphed into a blue magnificent dragon, which threw its head back and roared. As my eyes were closed, so I was not sure, but I thought the loud roar I heard indicated that I may have created something intimidating and loud. I opened my eyes and Adeen and Burnett were staring at my creation in pure awe. I allowed myself a little smile of pride. But that wasn’t all. I twisted and changed the dragon into a continuous wave that morphed into a fierce lion at its peak. I tried to make it roar like the dragon, but I was by now half-exhausted and just let the creation collapse and vaporize. My friends applauded me and we laughed.

    And now, for the finale.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, may I present our amazing Aliters in a big collaboration! Burnett’s voice boomed as Adeen and I coordinated what we were to do. All three of us had been working on something very special.

I concentrated on recreating the dragon again. and I could feel the heat and the force of the water on the fire. I slowly made a hole underneath the dragon that came up through its throat and out of its mouth. In there, I could feel Adeen straining to channel the flames into it, which was a challenge with the powerful aura of water around it. But she managed as the flames crept up through the reptile. Then I could feel surges of energy within me. This happened often between me and Adeen. Our powers would explode with energy and would combine. I felt even more when Burnett came in to armor the dragon with layer over layer of vegetation and greenery. Together we had created a mass killing machine. I was exhausted after we let go, but I barely felt it. I was happy. This was one of the only perks in life I had here. If I had any others.

Alright puppies, we are going to work your bodies to the breaking point today. Training starts NOW!!!

    image_2.jpg

Master Dalia really liked to call us sweetie names and use the word, NOW!!!. I blew at a stray piece of hair from my face. I liked training, and it was always tough. But being special, Master Dalia had always singled me out.

Okay, run twenty laps around the facility at top speed for warm up, NOW!!!

There she was with the NOW!!! again. So I set
