The human desire to connect with nature unquestionably provides for fascinating learning along with any wisdom gained from a sought-after experience. Perhaps nature also desires a similar connection, offering unique life awareness possibilities to what occurs in a shared journey. No matter the source of connection, the desire to express one’s learning would most assuredly be enjoyable to those willing to listen.

Cedrina, a little red cedar bench, unveils growing awareness throughout her adventurous life journey. Memory flashes from her past persist through awakening dream whispers longing to be heard. Cedrina’s story comes to you as a whimsical tale filled with charming life reflections, unusual connections, and energy-sharing opportunities. These enlightening experiences take place in a small alcove entrance of a rural country home far from the forest and lake surroundings of her past-life energy existence as a maturing red cedar tree.

ENCHANTMENT BEGINS

WATER’S EDGE GIFT

The motivation underpinning Cedrina’s story begins with an eagerly accepted invitation to camp out at a lake property nestled high in the mountains of British Columbia. This visit will provide the opportunity to share and enjoy a world of nature, where life and tranquillity intertwine in breathtaking beauty. It was the kind of rest and relaxation required (at least for this particular guest) that could only be found in such a harmonious setting. Camping in the middle of such a delightful forest area would turn out to be a most inspiring ending to a lovely but hectic summer vacation. Getting back to nature was the perfect means to bringing calmness to heart and mind before embarking on the long journey home. The excited guest could not help but feel tremendous appreciation for the opportunity to unwind in such a charm-filled atmosphere.

Settling into this enchanting environment began with a quick trek into the surrounding campsite area that would allow a firsthand glimpse of nature’s appeal, whetting the appetite for all that could be expected in the days ahead. It took but a moment for the peace and serenity of this alluring setting to soak in. The quick tour offered a tempting impression of having stepped into a small corner of the Garden of Eden. The visiting guest, so thoroughly impressed with this first taste of quiet charm, eagerly awaited to become further lost in enchantment. It was the first time that such an in-depth enticement to connect with nature had taken such a strong hold on the heart and mind of the captivated guest.

Majestic mountains were the backdrop of a breathtaking view of the peaceful lake where the campsite was located. A thorough exploration of the lake and surrounding area was high on the list of things to do over the next few sunshine-filled days. By being so fully immersed in the sights and sounds of nature, one could not help but become spellbound with tantalizing notions of imaginative forest life and story possibilities. During this visit, a warm midday turned out to be the perfect time for a stroll to the beachfront. While enjoying the slight cooling breeze coming off the lake, the guest’s attention was drawn to a strange-looking object resting in the pebbles at the water’s edge. Filled with a fascination at the marvel of nature so easily available, she felt it only natural to follow her intuitive urge to investigate. At first glance it appeared to be a small piece of driftwood.

Intrigued by the driftwood’s unusual shape, small size, and dull-gray coating, the guest eagerly picked up what she first thought was a lifeless piece of wood, and she momentarily held it close to her heart. After turning it over in her hands, she brushed off loose bits of dirt and sand. Her heart momentarily quickened with awareness when she began to feel a most peculiar faint vibration coming from within the driftwood. The astonishing moment left a distinct impression. This is much more than an old piece of dead wood. She was captivated by a passing thought. Perhaps all life forms really do hold some kind of undying energy, even this old, weathered piece of driftwood. It was this unexpected notion that immediately became the inspirational tone of what was to follow. Without a moment’s hesitation, the guest decided that this little gift from the lake would become a special keepsake, a reminder of her most intriguing connection with nature’s enchanting energy.

On her return to the campsite, the little piece of driftwood was placed on a large rock along with a collection of smaller stones she had gathered during the day’s outing. For the rest of the day, the guest pondered the increasing sense of mystery and intrigue that this piece of wood had evoked. A strange awakening to magical thinking triggered her curiosity to the hidden secrets of nature’s energy yet to be discovered. Her curiosity and imagination were indeed running free and wild during what turned out to be an extraordinary and delightful day.

As the day progressed, she decided that such an inspirational gift deserved a thorough cleanup that only her tender care could provide. And who can tell, she mused. Perhaps this little driftwood treasure has an important and insightful message to share. Even its shape and position, as it rested gracefully on the rocks with extending root tentacles, reminded her of something sacred. Its outstretched arms, seemingly clasped in a posture of prayer, begged to be noticed. The posture alone gave her the impression this piece of wood had something important to declare. All that was necessary was for someone to take the time to listen. It was impossible to resist such a plea for attention. While entertaining these fanciful ideas and thoughts, the guest began experiencing a strange and simultaneously old and familiar feeling. A new door of discovery slowly opened before her.

Later in the evening, before heading down to the campfire, she gathered the necessary tools for a decisive cleaning procedure to ready the piece for the next step, a vital and vigorous sanding. Great care would be needed to dig out the debris that had collected over time in the driftwood crevices. The guest was astonished with the depth of hopeful anticipation she felt with the amount of attention required to bring this little piece of driftwood back to life. It felt like she was about to embark on what could only be described as a quest of nature’s energy, in order to uncover the mysteries of this unique little piece of wood. As she settled in at the fire-pit with sandpaper and a sharp knife close at hand, she was finally ready to begin a new and disarming energy discovery journey.

Incredibly, the guest found that once she picked the driftwood up off the nearby rock, she again experienced the tingling sensation. It was identical to the faint vibration she’d felt earlier at the water’s edge during that first moment of contact. Her curiosity soared as she brought the little piece of driftwood up to her ear. ‘What is it you have to say to me?’ She was astonished with an unexpected response to her query. She actually heard a faint whisper, like a distant but clear echo. Open the door to heart and mind. Explore and enjoy each of life’s moments. She shook her head in amazement, unsure of what it meant. It was at this point that she began to doubt her own reality-based thinking, and she ultimately decided to turn her attention to the cleaning task at hand.

The origin of this beguiling piece of old wood was revealed as she smoothed away the rough gray outer shell. A warm, rich colour slowly emerged with her firm but gentle sanding. This new discovery both surprised and delighted her. This unearthing prodded further attentiveness and a determination to continue in spite of the intense energy and incessant sanding required. Soon, her efforts paid off in the revelation of a breathtaking display of symmetrical graining, with streaks of pink and red throughout the curves of the wood. The guest was delighted to discover that her little driftwood treasure was undoubtedly a small root portion of a red cedar. After she finished sanding, she buffed the piece and gently set it aside on the picnic table for the night. Turning towards her sleeping quarters to retire, she let out a deep, sigh of contentment. The guest smiled inwardly and thought to herself, I wonder who actually discovered whom?

While preparing for bed after the exhausting day of trekking through the forest and strolling by the lake, the guest reflected on the connection that took place with the little piece of wood. This remarkable, vibrational experience could only be viewed as incredible. If a lifeless object like this piece of driftwood is capable of whispering through this sort of vibrational energy, she thought, can it also communicate with other life- forms as well? Is such a thing even possible? Turning out the lights and shutting her eyes in the hopes of slowing her racing thoughts was the first of many attempts to get a good night’s sleep, but it was especially difficult when unfettered imagination was in full swing. She realized sleep would remain elusive and just out of reach. Nevertheless, the magical connections with nature’s energy experienced that day, paved the way for dream whispers filled with nature’s mystical life-form connections all through the night.

In spite of little sleep and an early rise, the guest felt fresh and strangely euphoric as she headed down to the fire-pit to welcome the morning sunrise. It was a mystifying and joy-filled occasion. As she arrived at the picnic table, the guest was greeted by a most surprising spectacle: the very first rays of the morning sun gently stroked the little piece of driftwood, intensifying the richness of newly exposed red cedar graining. For one thrilling moment, a surreal glow radiated from the extraordinary treasure. The sight triggered an untold appreciation for the energy force of nature. A door of awareness had definitely opened to her, and through it a new path of appreciation for all life-form connections awaited. She thought to herself, perhaps through this little gift from the lake, an opportunity would arise as a means to fulfil the growing inspiration she felt to share her exceptional experience. It did not take long before her unusual creative thinking took over, providing possibilities in a story form to explore and share nature’s energy experience with others. This unique nature connection took root deep in the heart and mind of this author, that very guest.

Moment of Reflection

When one is totally absorbed in such an extraordinary occurrence, the experience reaffirms and inspires reflective thinking about life-force energy in all of creation.

‘Open the door to heart and mind … Explore and enjoy each life moment.’ On that magical day, an intriguing door opened for me. It expanded my heart and filled my mind with a desire to express a portion of my life learning through a tale based on the exploration of this driftwood experience.

CEDRINA AWAKENS

THE LITTLE ALCOVE

The awakening season had arrived, and it brought with it the gifts of spring energy and light with the promise of warmer days ahead. Facing east, the rural country home was in a perfect position to capture that first magical glow of early dawn. If one listened carefully, sweet sounds of engagement could be heard with echoes of chirping and chattering taking place throughout the trees. Numerous small flying creatures beckoned the arrival of a new day. The large picture window provided a clear view of the winged ones, cloaked in magnificent flashes of colour, flitting from tree to tree. Spring had truly arrived.

Any moment now, the sun’s rays would begin a predictable journey, rising up over the far horizon, sending its magical light across the fields, and then slowly crossing the lawn to its final destination. The little alcove was awakened just as the light shone through the front entrance window, bringing morning delight to all in its path. As if it was to be expected, with each early spring, the very first rays streaming through the window provided the small room with a brilliant spectacle of beams. A delightful awakening from early sunrise energy would soon replace the deep sleep of winter. It was a most stimulating wake-up call for Cedrina, the
