Australia’s UNTOUCHED PLACES

Have you ever experienced a feeling of having the whole planet to yourself? This magical sensation often comes over me when immersed in untouched, untamed wilderness. It’s a special kind of aura — a privilege — that both silences and inspires me. These moments ground and recalibrate me, calm my heart and revive my soul. I crave them often.

Such moments in wilderness are the very tonic we ‘2020 Warriors’ need right now.

In preparing this piece, I challenged our incredibly well-travelled families at Outdoor and Places We Go to share some of their most beloved ‘Untouched Places’. The response was immediate and overwhelming.

The following article is not a Top 10 as such. Instead, it’s a conversation starter, and a deeply personal one. It’s a heartfelt homage to treasured landscapes, National Parks and pockets of nature where we feel peace amongst the beauty. According to Megan Holbeck, “It’s where the magic seeps in”, while for Matt Williams it’s “where life makes sense.” For Bruce Lewis, such places make us “feel smaller in the grander scheme of things, but greater in the spirit for having been there.”

In sharing this, we hope to spark your imagination and conjure serious travel wonder, with plenty of practical inspiration along the way. Whether it’s a special place to revisit, or a new destination to explore, enjoy these reflections as much as we did when preparing them!
