The Come and Read Me Book of Poems 2 - Terry J Powell
A Football Widow
A football widow, there you sit
Can’t stand football one little bit
Empty cans, and snacks in bowls
To the shouting of those scoring goals
Attention half time, you’re not elated
22 blokes kicking a pigs bladder round a field, to you is not rated
Pretending your enjoying the game, oh you must be so
frustrated
David Beckham is the only thing worth the view
And every football season, this you have to do
Don’t suppose your partner would really care
Him being so enthralled in the game, you might as well not be there
Your purpose is just to keep up the supplies
Make sure the beer and snacks, that never dies
I bet your praying for the football season to be over
That day you’ll be rolling in clover
Soon it’s the start of another sports fanatic’s widow’s
reason
It’s now the start of the cricket season
A game
Looks like you have a game to play
But now I see through your way
Your feeling hurt
As you have took another Knock in life and your feeling inert
But take one good hard look at yourself for one moment
Stop and take stock and lament
You just can’t see it can you?
Treating others the way you do
I can understand your past abuse
The way you put it to use
Why do you think I took a step back?
Is it true compassion that you lack?
I’m not the one you should attack
After all I helped you get back on track
Was I so wrong in this thing I do?
Helping and healing you?
Is this the way I’m to be Paid?
To live this life of a so called masquerade?
You must realise your hurt is self imposed
The true motive? its only you who knows
A pattern in your life revolves
And finding it harder to get off, as it evolves
I haven’t bothered you. I have just stayed away
Not used others as a tool, just to have your say
Me the Villain
You the heroine
Well you know the truth and the treason
And by now
