What is a Poem?
A Sheep in Woolf’s Clothing
Lovingly dedicated to Jennifer,
the one who inspires the poetry in my life.
A Nutshell
If I were bounded in a nutshell,
I would be king of my space.
I would stretch my arms wide and touch the rough, course sides
of the shell.
I would look up and see a roof of brown,
and my feet would rub across
the floor, hard and smooth.
Bounded in the nutshell,
I would know my space was infinite,
I would know that the top,
bottom,
and sides
would not hold me captive.
I could move about my nutshell
with the freedom of limitation disappearing,
melting away into oblivion.
Yes, I could be bounded in a nutshell,
and my kingdom would reign supreme,
the kingdom of me,
the kingdom of I.
Being bound in a nutshell
seems like confinement,
but it provides privacy,
quiet,
serenity.
I would be bounded in a nutshell
during the day and night
and never cry or seek out the satisfaction of others.
Being bounded
is
being free.
Yes, bound me in a nutshell,
and watch how I smile with glee.
Circuitous Thoughts
The very real feel of raw emotion
Seen from an internal eye
A fear of yesterday’s actions
Yesteryear fades into the past
Leading me into moments of reflection
And circuitous thoughts of the future.
Liquid Heaven
The drip of rain booming thunder
The drops of liquid heaven fall down
Isolating individual splashes
Into a pool of oblivion.
Stress
Stress: a motivator and a distractor
Turning my feelings into gelatinous nerve endings
Never ceasing with the pain and agony of the drive
The drive to continue
The
