Teresa Lambert

My favorite subjects at school were history, literature and gym. I have always loved to write and I would prefer to read a book than watch the movie. I have studied photography I am now going to college to learn computers and I am hoping to one day be able to take off and see the world. I would love to see the mountains of Colorado and the beautiful sites in Greece and England then maybe have fun touring all our favorite theme parks.

E veryone was in the kitchen getting started with breakfast when there was a knock on the door Ben went to answer it. He came back with James and Katie behind him.

Teresa turned when she heard James and asked what brings you two here?

Dad was supposed to be taking me out for breakfast. Katie said, sitting down next to Morgan at the back of the table.

So you two haven’t eaten breakfast yet? Abigail asked, as James sat next to Teresa.

Katie shook her head, No he said we had to stop here first. She stuck the back of her hand on her forehead and acted overly dramatic as she said, So I sit and wait wasting away to nothing while he talks.

Laughing Abigail handed her a plate. I know what you mean, here sweetheart eat something it’s been my experience that they will talk forever and there’s no need for you to starve.

James looked at them very funny ladies ha, ha.

Ben laughed, I am also curious to why you’re here and grinning from ear to ear.

Katie stuck her fork into a piece of French toast, I know what you mean, she used her fork to point at her dad he’s had that stupid grin on his face since last night and he wouldn’t tell me what’s making him so happy. She finished then stuck the food into her mouth

Now that we are here, I can tell you. This one, James put his arm around Teresa, has expressed the desire to attend Archevite High School. It took me until yesterday to dig through every file in that school, he said as he rolled his eyes and tilted his head, literally every file, to find the forms Miller said she would need to attend Archevite High. He set a file about two inches thick on the table in front of Teresa.

Morgan looked at the file poked it with his fork and commented, That sure is thick isn’t it?

Katie gave a look of disgust as she asked are you sure you still want to do this?

Teresa picked up the file, Yes I want to do this! Remember classes have already started back up she commented as she began to look through the file and read the cover letter.

"Welcome new student. We are pleased that you want to enroll at the Archevite High School. Below is a list of required forms to fill out and hand in for non-magic applicants:

    1.   Birth Verification—we will need a copy of your birth certificate along with the form.

    2.   Proof of Approved Parental Position—we will need all paper work from the court proceedings along with the signed document of the approving council members.

    3.   Verification of Major Magical Moments—we will need a written description of all the students’ major magical events signed by three eyewitnesses to those events.

    4.   Attendance Application—Parent and student must sign this form.

    5.   Non-Magic Parental Consent Form—the student’s biological parents must fill out and sign this form.

    6.   Student Intelligence Forms—a copy of the student’s non-magic school records along with our own intelligence test must be included.

    7.   Skills and Abilities Form—any trainer, personal or from the Academy must fill out one of these forms.

    8.   Class Approval Form—the student must fill out a form for each class they choose to take then they must give a Sample of the work from that class such as if they are taking a writing course they must submit a Sample story then get the teachers approval.

    9.   Council Approval Form—you must write in a 100 words or more your reason for wanting to join Archevite High and have the signature of four council members at level three or higher (not acting as parent).

    10.   Student Hand Book—this must be read and signed by both student and parent and in doing so you will be stating you have read and understand everything in the book especially our rules of conduct and the penalty for breaking those rules."

James said, oh wait there’s one more I forgot. he reached in his inside jacket pocket and pulled out a pamphlet and handed it to her. On the front, it said Archevite High School Curriculum. he told her go through this and decide what classes you would like to take. I made a bunch of the class approval forms for error and plus if you fill one out for each class you want to take, plus the core classes then your covered. When you get your test results they will tell you what classes you have to take, right now all we know for definite is history, our history and fundamentals of magic so if you do one for each thing we will be covered and that will be a plus in your favor being prepared okay. He looked around the table and said, Darn it you wait one second. He ran out the door he was gone for only a few minutes and when he came back he handed Teresa a book here read this not some cliffs note version of the history book okay, that way you can do up a proper book report for the approval form.

Teresa hugged James, Sounds great thank you James for helping me do this. She turned to Ben and Abigail, So are you ready to help with my two tons of paper work or do you want to forget it and me just come back when I graduate?

Ben grabbed the file we are ready, let’s do this okay. Teresa nodded as they took the forms out of the folder and separated them into piles of who had to fill them out.

James had been watching Teresa and when he saw that she had antenna starting to sprout from her head he asked her Teresa honey how are you feeling?

Teresa looked at him curiously, Oh I’m fine I can now say I’m as giddy as a school girl because I am. Nevertheless, I feel the small signs of the butterflies in the stomach being a little nervous about starting school here. Why?

As she had said this the antenna were completed and she had started to form wings James said, Oh no real reason other than you are turning into a butterfly right now.

Everyone looked up to see, Teresa started getting a little worried oh man, I don’t look like a bug, do I? That would be so gross.

Ben put his hand on her arm saying, no Teresa you do not look like a bug calm down you just have antenna and wings that’s all. He looked at James and explained ever since Leonard threw her over the rail at the mall her powers have been growing I have taught her how to call them up and control them some but these little surprise displays keep happening and I have no clue how to control them and I can’t suppress them for long. I have shown her tricks so it’s not happening nearly as much but I’m not sure how to stop it totally. Any ideas what could be happening to her?

James still looking at Teresa said yeah I think I do let me research it first so I don’t screw up okay then I’ll get back to you. He leaned in towards Teresa and said, Only certain thing I can say is you need to relax honey we’re here and we’ll help you.

Teresa sighed; she looked at James and stated, You mean you’ll fix me.

James laughed, Honey you’re not broke, and yes I’ll fix you.

    Wednesday, March 12, 1986

T eresa and Ben spent that week filling out the forms so Teresa could enroll in school. James helped her get her school records, her birth certificate, and biological parent consent form. Teresa was ready to go into the school to get the tests done and get her required courses.

James and Ben took Teresa into school Ben waited in the main office while James took Teresa to the classrooms to get Jenkins and Jones to fill out her Skills and Abilities Form. They went to Jones first he was in his classroom teaching the fundamentals of magic. James knocked on the door then entered with Teresa right behind him.

They approached Jones, and James explained, Teresa has received her stay and would like to attend school here. We need you to fill out a skills and abilities form for her.

Jones looked at her and asked why didn’t you go to Jenkins he was your teacher I was just the assistant?

Teresa sighed she rubbed her forehead then stepped next to James if you’re saying that because of the comment I made during lessons I’m sorry for the remark I shouldn’t have made it. The forms say I need one filled out by everyone I learned from and you taught me the magical stuff of my training. So would you please fill one of the forms out for me?

Jones chuckled Teresa I appreciate the apology but I was serious usually everyone only goes to Jenkins for that form.

James cleared his throat well we have to fill out for the non-magic applicant and they are usually sticklers for exacts she wanted to be sure she didn’t give them a reason to turn her application down.

Jones looked at James then to Teresa yes Teresa I will fill out your form. He took the form from Teresa sat at his desk and filled it out, he handed it back to Teresa saying, There you go.

Thank you Mr. Jones I appreciate this so much.

As she turned to leave, Jones grabbed her hand just a minute I have something for you. he went to his file cabinet, pulled out a large manila envelope, and handed it to Teresa.

    Teresa asked confused, What’s this?

Jones smiled, It’s your certificate of completion plus your skills portfolio. You were not here when we had the ceremony and I heard your family was busy bringing you back. I figured if they succeeded, I would be seeing you, and if not then James, Ben or Thomas would remember and come pick it up for you. I am glad they succeeded because now I can say congratulations Teresa it was a pleasure teaching you, and I hope you are successful with this because then I will have the pleasure of teaching you again. My class is mandatory.

Teresa laughed thank you I hope I do succeed because then I know I’ll have one teacher I like.

Good luck. Jones called as Teresa and James were leaving the room.

Teresa smiled and waved as the door closed and Jones went back to teaching his class.

Next James took Teresa to the gymnasium to talk to Jenkins. When they entered the class, they were coming up behind Jenkins. His class was in line and he was walking back and forth in front of his students as he was reprimanding them I have never been this disappointed in my whole career as a teacher. That was the most pathetic display of battle skills, he stopped and faced his class the worst I’ve seen in my life time. Now,

At this, Teresa ran up put her arms around Jenkins and looking over his shoulder she said, Now to let you all know underneath this tough exterior she patted his chest he is nothing but a teddy bear. His students laughed at her remark as she squeezed him in a hug.

He turned his head to look at her over his shoulder and said Lambert I thought I got rid of you after training.

She put her mouth an inch away from his ear and quietly said III’m baaack! then she kissed his cheek.

Jenkins turned to his class and yelled this is not a show, everyone drop and give me 50. He turned looked at Teresa and shaking his head said, I bet you think your funny don’t you? he grab her hand pulled her to him and gave her a hug it’s good to see your family got you back sweet heart. He released her and asked, So what brings you here honey?

She grabbed the form from James, I want to start school here, I need you to fill out a skill, and abilities form for me, she explained as she handed the form to him.

He took the form from her I sure can sweetheart don’t forget to have Jones fill one out for you the council are, he paused then said well they’re morons and they’ll stick it to you if you don’t cover all the angles.

Teresa and James laughed she told him yeah we thought of that also we went to him first.

He put his arm around her back and guided her to the bleachers to sit down he asked, Did he give you your certificate and portfolio.

Teresa smiled as she patted her bag, yes he did.

I hope you like it I did yours myself. He told her as he filled out her form, It was the first one I’ve ever done Jones usually does them. But because I went to the tests they thought I should help out I started with yours and while I was busy with yours Jones got the rest of them done.

Teresa laughed and told him I haven’t had the chance to look at it I’ll let you know how bad it is later okay.

He smiled and handed her the form he lightly patted her cheek, You do that, and good luck. He started to head toward his class as they were leaving. He turned and called hey! then walked over to them. Remember you can use the portfolio and the certificate, plus you should have your report card in the envelope to show your skills. He pointed at her as he said, just remember to make copies because they will take any paper offered for their view. He tapped the file with his finger remember you keep the originals and make sure they give the portfolio back to you when their done looking at it.

He touched her cheek then turned and walked back to his class as Teresa said, I will.

James took her back to the office and met up with Ben. They went to an area off to the side and James handed the student intelligence form to the teacher present, here Grace Ms. Lambert needs to take the intelligence test for enrollment.

Grace took the form and guided Teresa to a room behind her. Grace stopped just in front of the door you are not allowed to take anything into this room with you, so if you have anything in your pockets remove it now.

Teresa told her I don’t have anything on me, as she handed Ben her bag, she pulled out her front pockets and held up her candy except my candy then she patted her back pockets held her arms away from her body and asked would you like to pat me down?

Grace smiled and said that won’t be necessary but the candy must go can’t take a chance that they are smart tabs. You two she said pointing to Ben and James must stay out here Teresa please follow me.

Teresa handed James the candy as she told James and Ben you could have told me about the smart tabs they could have come in handy. They laughed as she followed Grace.

Grace led Teresa into the room; it was small and had a single desk inside. Grace told Teresa please sit down, look straight ahead, and don’t move. There was a flash then Grace continued, You will be given two hours to complete this test, it will cover every course available. There will be twenty-five questions for each subject if you run into any problems or if you have any questions press this button. She said as she pointed to a red button on the corner of the desk if you finish before the allotted time just sit in here quietly until I come back. When Teresa nodded, Grace continued, Here is your test booklet, she handed Teresa a book the size of a magazine. Then she handed her a booklet quite a bit smaller and three sheets of blank paper this is the answer booklet. Do not write in either book other than to fill in the spot for your answer. Use the blank paper to work out any problem or to doodle. She went to the door and said your time begins now" then she left the room.

After Grace, left Teresa opened the test book and started to take the test. Grace sat at her desk watching her monitor. Ben sat patiently waiting while James paced in front of him.

Ben looked up at James man sit down it’s not like she’s having a baby she’s taking a test for goodness sake. When James didn’t sit, Ben grabbed his arm and pulled him down into the seat next to him you’re making me nervous. What’s the matter with you James?

James fidgeted in his seat he swiped his palms down his thighs I don’t know this is just new and with everything that’s gone on I’m worried what Miller’s going to do to mess it up.

Ben pushed James with his elbow stop talking like that this is going to end just fine okay. He set Teresa’s bag down it fell over and the contents fell out. He picked up Teresa’s forms and put them back in her bag then he held up the envelope and asked, What’s this?

James smiled and shook his head nothing, we forgot to pick up her certificate from her training and when we were getting Jones to fill out a form he gave it to her.

Ben looked at it you know I had completely forgotten about that. It’s a darn shame she couldn’t have been here for the ceremony she would have loved it.

James nudged Ben with his elbow do you want to hear something funny?

Ben turned slightly so he could see James okay let’s hear it.

Jenkins told Teresa and me that because he showed up to the test days they made him help Jones make the portfolios.

They both laughed as Ben commented, that is funny, I wonder how bad he did.

James looked at him and nodded toward the envelope as soon as Teresa opens hers we’ll see he said hers was the only one he did. He said Jones had finished all the others while he worked on hers. I guess Jones was afraid of the job Jenkins would do on them.

Can you blame him? Jenkins has never done those I’m surprised he even attempted to do one. Everyone knows its Jones that does their classes portfolios he probably didn’t want people to think he did them. Ben chuckled.

James furrowed his brow do you really think it could be that bad?

I hope not for Teresa’s sake. Ben told him, and then they sat talking quietly for the rest of the testing time.

James kept standing up so he could look into the test room he noticed Teresa had finished slightly into the second hour.

When Teresa finished her test, she remained seated in the room doodling on the blank paper. When her time was up Grace came in she took the test made a note on it then told Teresa come back tomorrow and I’ll have the results done then you can talk to a councilor to set up your courses.

James and Ben stepped up to Teresa as she came out of the room. Ben handed her bag to her and Teresa slipped the strap over her head as she told Grace thank you then she turned to James and Ben and asked them so what’s next?

James put his arm around her well now we can take you home so you can make sure you have all your forms filled out and get something to eat.

When they got home, Teresa pulled everything out of her bag; she checked every form to make sure they were complete. She finished any that were incomplete then lifted the council approval form and asked what about this form?

James looked over at her and asked, What form is that?

The council approval form, Teresa said lifting it slightly higher so he could see it.

James took the form from Teresa grabbed her pen and signed it saying you have my approval he handed it back to her as he kissed the side of her head now we just need three more signatures, after lunch I’ll take you in and we can get the others.

You mean we’ll try to find someone to sign it, she said as she lowered her eyes to the forms on the table.

James grabbed her hands then he put one hand up to her chin and made her look at him, even if I have to pin them against the wall or break their other hand they’ll sign that form.

Teresa smiled Abigail shoved James out of his seat he stood up and she took his place as she said, you will not use violence.

James was standing behind Abigail nodding his head he pointed to his chest and mouthed, Yes I will.

Ben and Thomas laughed Abigail straightened up saying you will not then she leaned toward Teresa if you don’t get the signatures we’ll figure something out sweetie.

Teresa nodded then put her papers back in the file leaving the council form on top. She opened her envelope she pulled out the certificate of completion for her magic and weaponry skills she used her finger to trace the raised image of the dragon sitting on a star with a purple ribbon in his mouth that was at the top center of the page. She read aloud Archevite Academy Certificate of Completion may it be known that this certificate has been presented to Teresa Sue Lambert for completion of Magic and Weaponry Skills under the guidance of Michael Jenkins on this day November 29, 1985. This is beautiful.

Abigail was standing behind Ben when Teresa handed him the certificate, they both looked at it, and Abigail told her Teresa it is wonderful.

They handed it to Thomas he looked at it saying, I can’t believe we forgot about this I’m sorry honey. Then he handed the certificate to James.

James was smiling at Teresa he told her we could throw you a party or something what do you think? he asked as he handed the certificate back to her.

Teresa shook her head and told him no that’s okay I don’t need a party. She set her certificate on the table then continued to look through the rest of the contents. The first thing was her magic and weaponry skills report, then her report card, there were also several pages each with a skill or magic performed with a description and a hand drawn picture of the skill or magic on them. There was a copy of the letters written to the council for her test day along with the council test results. It was beautiful; it was on a yellow parchment paper so it appeared aged. Even the letters from the others to the council; it appeared as if Jenkins had done a transfer spell so all the pages were parchment. Everything Jenkins wrote was hand written in calligraphy and her cover picture was a hand drawn portrait of her and Jenkins fighting with staffs. The last thing in the portfolio was several pages of photos showing Teresa demonstrating her skills and magic followed by a description of what was in the picture.

They were all impressed with the portfolio Teresa said, This is amazing I can’t believe Jones can do nine of these up quicker than Jenkins could do one. Everyone laughed Teresa asked what?

Thomas said, Sweetheart I think yours is a one of a kind deal nobodies looks that good trust me.

He did a beautiful job on this you’re lucky Jenkins did yours. Abigail commented.

James told her keep that stuff out and we’ll make copies when we go to get the councils signatures okay.

Teresa nodded saying okay as she stuck everything together.

After lunch, James took Teresa to the academy to make her copies and talk to the council. After they made their copies James told her come on we can start with Green he won’t be busy. When Teresa gave him a disapproving look at his comment James said, I didn’t mean anything bad he’s efficient and always has his work done. Teresa nodded her head as James commented, yeah the man does more than anyone in these offices and he doesn’t look like he’s ever doing a thing. When I look that way it’s because I’m not doing a thing and the work is piling up because I’m procrastinating about having to do it.

They laughed as they got to Green’s office and knocked.

    Mr. Green called out enter.

Teresa explained what she needed and when she was done, Green smiled took her form and said, I would be most happy to sign your form for you. He handed it back to her there you go Ms. Lambert good luck.

They left Green’s office and went to Gardiner’s office. When they arrived at Gardiner’s office, he was in a meeting so they had to wait. After they explained their presence, he signed Teresa’s form for her, telling her good luck as they left his office.

They found Miller at his secretary’s desk, they waited for him to give her his orders, and then James let Teresa explain what she wanted. When she finished her request Miller looked at her said No and started to walk down the hall.

James grabbed Teresa’s hand and they followed him. When they got within earshot of Miller James asked what’s the matter with you just sign her form for her.

Miller stopped he faced both of them with a smile as he crossed his hands behind his
