About the Author My name is Elbert Lee Merrick, most people just call me Lee or any little nick name they so choose to give me. I've spent most of my childhood life as a sort of social outcast without many friends. Along with the social awkwardness came some troubles at the home, but that's not what this is about. What I really want to get into is that for me writing and reading, like I did at such a young age, was my escape from reality and most importantly it was, and still is, an outlet for recovery. Not only for myself but for the people I became closest with. At this point in time I have graduated high school, but while I was there I was struggling with demons of my past and the fact that I had made a big move from Virginia down to Florida. There I attended Milton high and my love of writing really flourished. And I began to make some friends weather I wanted to or not. As the bonds I formed with them grew stronger I learned a lot about some of the darker sides and that I wasn't the only one facing personal demons. And thus I found through them and poetry I could exercise these demons, well so to speak, and that is what this is about the chance to share this for whoever will read it.

Bad Symphony
curse be to you the one who
tunes the strings of a heart
your discorded touch your half felt actions
to play a part in a broken melody
that which none can hear but all can see
you pull you play and each note cries
in this dramatic symphony of the heart
beginning without a simple tuning
the notes written down today
never new but always the same
played by all far and wide
across the setting sun and rising tide
the moment of crescendo played in life
cures to you the one who tunes the string of a heart
for you abandon your small part
in the symphony of the heart.
133978-MERR-layout.pdfBlades Stories
Each blade has a story to tell
Some tell a story of care and pride
While others show of use and death
Killing not by will or want
Not for joy or entertainment
Countless times they have been used
An artist’s tool an artist of death
Each death is an enemy
Being slain each kill stops a heart
Back when the blade was an art
A craft mastered by few
Held proudly be fewer
But not all blades
Are used as tools for pain
Neither honor nor glory in a battlefield
But for greed and vengeance and pain
A few use it for pleasure for it
May seem to take away the pain
But in the end all it ever dose is cause
More pain to all those around
For many the blade is a tool
Something to be used for others
The blade is a beautiful work of art
To be used in the hands of the artists
To take a life to preserve a way, a thinking
Of how life should be lived
In the hands of those artists on the battlefield.
